Worth a try I suppose, Can you still get what they used to call Rooting Hormone to dip the ends in?

I have a pot of that stuff sitting in the car. Another good intention! Lots of information if you Google. I really need to do Honey Suckle, Dog Rose, Holly, and Hazel.

Why is there always so much to do when spring comes around? I think if you put some of that hormone in water and just pop a few cuttings in, they should root, then you have something to plant out. What lives, lives. Less work than treating each cutting separately.

Apparently dipping cuttings in honey has a similar effect, but never tried it.

So I keep getting a barn owl in the shed and it’s getting a good number of rats from what’s being left over from what I can see and it often flies out in a morning so I’m thinking of putting a nest box up.
There are no cattle in this shed but Trouble is there is often machinery running in this shed for a hour or two at the weekends (mainly in winter as it’s the muck store) and I also park a couple of cars in there that come and go as and when.
there is plenty of height to where I’d like to put box. (I could go higher but I think it will get to hot under tin sheet roof as I’ve seen some swallow/swift chicks get cooked up there nests).
would it be worth a chance putting a nest box in here or would so much activity disturb them to much ?

Try it, the worst that can happen is it doesn't get used.

Owls are pretty tolerant. When I moved into my previous house, I found a nest with owlets in the chimney. I removed the young birds to a box put into a nearby apple tree and the parents continued as usual. It may be a year or two before they use a new nest box but certainy worth a try.
