Crimson Clover

I know there are other threads about this but to save time just a few questions. We are going to be sowing 2 year italian ryegrass into a spring barley stubble this week. The intention is to have an early bite for getting ewes and lambs and cows and calves onto. We will then shut the field up for silage probably mid May. Is crimson clover any use in this situation?

A bit late for crimson clover even in the south I would say, but it has a large seed (for a clover) so perhaps not a total lost cause. IR and vetches is more promising?

I’ve never sown it this late, only earlier in the season or after Winter Barley. In both cases next to nothing made it through even a mild winter.

I doubt it would do much this Autumn now, so I’d save your money, or replace it with red.

Planted some last year was good amount in 1 st cut but none came back for 2 nd cut just the Italian & the normal red clover needs to be in early August to thrive.
