CVX on Diet Feeder

I confess to having to use the clutch on a New Holland autocommand once, in my defence I was in a bit of a panic, as it was all new to me and I felt that the farmer would have much preferred I didn't try to drag the tractor (and attached Simba solo) through the hedge instead of doing a headland turn as normal.

So today we set throttle at 1200 engine rpm, and moved forward with foot throttle. Never touched clutch pedal.
Great job.
Thanks.
Our mistake was, driving it like a geared tractor, trying to use clutch pedal for inching forward.
Do you use the "hand" throttle or the "memory" buttons on the armrest? I rarely use the hand throttle since the saved revs are quite good for everything.

We use hand throttle. Dont know if there are preset engine revs buttons. I'll have a look tomorrow.

Might save a second or two when starting PTO but in the end it doesn't really matter IMO..

Yeah I imagine stick mode is really unintuitive when starting out with a CVT so I will always preach the greatness of pedal mode, hah!
If nothing else I always feel much more in control of the tractor with the pedal... Though I suppose the way Case does it with a sliding stick rather than spring loaded makes it the same as a drive pedal.

Pedal mode on autocommand unless on field work then use the stick.

I always use the hand throttle when using things like mowers as I don’t like the way the 1 and 2 settings for revs go up so fast. I like to ease the revs up on those sort of machinery.

As someone else said it’s the orange buttons with 1 and 2 beside them.

Try the gearbox in mode 2 as well. It’ll stop much quicker and be more responsive in pedal mode.

But don't do mode 2 or 3 on road, especially under heavy load. Or so i've been told by the salesman and the mechanics.

I think there is a setting you can adjust the speed it gets up to revs with.

I found that with several makes- sort of puts you off using the computer to bring the revs up so you are back to the hand throttle which is daft as the idea is the computer is watching the engine load and looking to maintain the speed rather than just a hand throttle. Probably worrying too much since you are winding it up under zero load??

Really? That’s interesting. I find in mode 1 there’s not enough slowing down when you lift off. Feels like it’ll run on straight past the junction you want to stop at.
In mode 2 i can drive sympathetically using nothing other than the foot pedal and maybe an occasional dab of the exhaust brake. Almost never needing the actual brakes unless you have to stop quickly or meet a car on a lane for example.
I’m sure when I read the manual it said any mode could be used for any purpose to the users preference, but the last thing I want to do is cause undue wear on the box?

That would be great to know. The first use after start up it feels the power in lovely and slow. After that it’s idle > set revs instantly. I’ve not found any settings on the screen in the 6 years I’ve been using them so maybe it’s a dealer laptop job?

Using the same control pad as pictured above, on my non cvx tractor I bring the revs gently up on the foot pedal, then click in the set revs memory button. Unlike the hand throttle, the pedal won't cancel the memory revs.
I guess yours will have the same control logic, but I assume you will need the drive in stick mode to set it off.

I've been doubting myself since posting that comment, as I'm not completely familiar with the tractor yet. Now I've been thinking about it, I think it's part of the HMC II settings so probably wouldn't work for stand alone use.

After you've pressed the clutch (which is basically a safety switch operated by your foot) from releasing the park brake you simply do not need to touch it again at all (unless you put the machine in park and have left the seat, then you need to do the above again).

If you insist on using the hand throttle rather than 1 of the 2 engine preset settings and you don't want the foot pedal or Multicontroller to over ride or interfere with the engine rpm, then you need to set the right hand piece of the split throttle back level with, or behind the left hand part.

That way no matter how hard you push that pedal or push the stick forward, the engine speed wont increase past what you have the left hand lever set at.

Sounds complicated but it really is very simple.

Alternatively if you use the engine preset settings then the pedal and the Multicontroller will determine travel speed only. Whicever way you do you should be able to control the motion of the tractor whether forwards or backwards on the pedal or Multicontroller without a single need to touch the clutch or (unless on the road) the brakes.

Is it bad that I dip the clutch with my hand so I don’t have to get the pedal dirty for that initial press? :cautious:
