Discounts for bulk buying fuel?

At the moment I have a 3000 litre fuel store, but at the peak of harvesting we could be getting that filled up every week, so I’m looking at a bigger tank.
At what level of fuel ordered would (or not) attract a discount, and if it does, how much would that be?

If your in the south East then you will get raped by the fuel companies, we seem to be being held to ransom.

In all honesty, unless your going to install a 40000 litre tank that can accept a full artic load then the discounts will be fairly small. Don’t be afraid to shop around each time to get the best deal either

As above unless you can take an artic load I don't think it makes any difference. We doubled our capacity last summer but that was because it was getting silly running out in 7-10 days. Reasons we didn't go any bigger was 1. space 2. didn't want diesel hanging around in the tank too long through the winter months. Would rather keep running it through keeping it fresh.

If same as companies I buy from you get a discount for every 5k litre order. So different prices for 5k, 10k, 15k litre orders.

However remember being out one night discussing fuel prices and guy with a 1200 litre tank got cheaper price per litre than guy buying a artic load!

Other issue with buying bulk is if price drops.

18000 was the sweetest spot on price when we ordered White. 10 in one tank and 8 in the other.

One Hit and they were off empty with a 6 wheeler

2 tanks 10k and 38k. If we ran the big one dry then it was a bit cheaper with a full artic coming in but they'd always come at a silly time and cause a headache either first thing as 60m vehicles were running out or when they all trundling in.

Are there any restrictions on the size of tank your allowed. Here I have 25000l of storage. My biggest tank the distributor won’t fill because it’s not double wall or has any containment in the event of a collision it could cause extensive pollution. I fill it from a 5000l tank sited along side. If the price of fuel seems attractive I can fill my 15000l while they pump it into the 5k one I transfer it to the big tank. Doesn’t take long to save some reasonable money if you hit it right. I pay X amount per drop regardless of amount they off load.

I`d speak to local fuel suppliers and see what their quantity discounts are. Main thought I have is that the tank is better emptied now and then to keep the fuel "fresher", and hopefully reduce the risk of "bug" troubles.

An ex-roadtanker is the best thing to install on legs with a bund to get the biggest discount .

As said before, unless you can take an artic load there wont be all that much difference. if you take a full arctic then it comes straight from the bunker at the docks, no messing. anything less and they still have to unload the arctic at their depot, load their small truck etc.

6 Wheelers came 6 Mile from Stanlowe... Artics came 6 Mile From Stanlowe here.

Regular drivers so they'd happily tell you.

Between the 5 yards it was 100k litres of white a week..

Doesn’t take long to lose that saving if you hit it wrong either 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣🤣
Or if a driver decides to fill his own car when you’re not looking or, as happened many years ago before auto/shutoff nozzles, goes around the corner for a sneaky fag whilst waiting for the milk round Sherpa van tank to fill and lets 50 litres of derv run down the yard.
At least the days of fuel station attendants asking the driver how much extra to write on the receipt are long gone with a fuel card for each vehicle …. we’re on 115 ppl this week 😢

Same as buying or selling any product, you make a decision and have to stick with it. Very rarely buy as prices bottom out or sell as the peak but that’s life. Keep trying to do the best we all can. lucky here that I can run all farm vehicles on dyed fuel. Even petrol I buy in bulk and it’s dyed too. Very useful to have a tank in the yard fir lawn mower, quads and even a chainsaw. Saves time driving to town and don’t buy a chocolate bar either

i can vouch for the company i work for , we offer pretty good discounts depending on the amount you order, ordering over 1000l can drop the price considerably
