I remember feeding the chooks with my grandfather. All the day’s peelings were put in a big bucket to this a few generous scoops of mash was added, this was topped up with a large amount of hot water. My job was to stir. I can remember the smell now writing about it. My uncle live in the house now and he still has the bowl the peelings were kept in.

It was back in the 70s so I assume too late to prosecute me for this admission now.

Whatbif they roam round the yard , peck a worm or two ,maybe a snail ,eat grass , run round fighting overbthe mouse one of them found , Feckin madness
we have kept a line of pretty vicious banties on occasion.
One clutch of youngsters were in a run - most ran feral- and woe would betide any songbird that got in with em.
They ate everything but the feet and the beak of several little twitterers.
A young raptor got in with them one day - presumably thinking he'd 'chance his arm'.
We found it clinging upside down to the top of the run, terrified out of its wits....as 7-8 very small velociraptors advanced.

There's a lot lower risk of high levels salmonella outside of a kitchen where all sorts of animal products are handled - raw, processed and cooked. I seem to recall reading an article where tests done on free chickens showed less than 1% infection rates for those not fed scraps compared to something like 25% for those that were.

Should of told them to get a fecking life an go an find the twunts that are killing my sheep in a back ally street somewhere instead of worrying about a few carrot peelings!!! Jobs worth, just qualified were they

I'm sure when they applied for the job they didn't think they'd be telling someone not to feed peelings to chickens, they were probably more concerned about just getting a job.
