aka ‘Lexion’May as well add a drill too and plant next years crop while yer combining! A true one pass!!
Might be the sort of thing grants would be available for to see if it would help clean water coming out of field drains, the wood chip acting as a filter. It would definitely take up nitrogen
Possibly capture carbon underground as well?

Won’t do anything for the roots but if your roots are down that far the drains must be working well. This area and south fir a couple hundred miles is very flat. Only time a sock is over the pipe is where sand is likely to enter the pipe. In clay no sock is used as it’s supposed to slime up and restrict water flow. As for gravel millions of acres south of the border are drained without gravel. the general thinking here is you are not draining surface water but lowering the water table to give somewhere for the rains to go. Reducing fertilizer leaching as it’s not entering the drains but re filling the soil profile in the root zone.Do the geotextile sock/filter things stop osr roots, just had to jet some of mine, silted up with mass of roots in them?
Nonsense - I have been in trenches all day repairing clay tile drains that are 19th century with 4ft of clay on top of themsoil type, they don't work in clay either without it, but they do work better than plastic.
Yes there is similar here, but I think they are lowering the water table, in the 1980s we had schemes laid with every 3rd run deeper for water table control, they had stone to enable then to do the surface as well... this was in medium to light soils.Nonsense - I have been in trenches all day repairing clay tile drains that are 19th century with 4ft of clay on top of them
