The New Holland TCE is much smaller than the 990 or 4000, power isn't the problem, lift height is.55 hp should be fine - about the power of an old 4000 or DB 990 which was adequate in days gone by.

it is in the top hole so will try the lower one, thanksWhich hole have you got the top link in on the Tractor end top or bottom ?
if you have it in the top hole the mower will tend to droop
if you have it in the bottom hole tthe mower will tend to go higher
yes, will just have to put up with it I suppose, thanksThe New Holland TCE is much smaller than the 990 or 4000, power isn't the problem, lift height is.
Yes think I forgot about the headstock latch, thanksLatch is on the headstock end on the pz 170
Yea have the arms pretty much adjusted as high as they will go, will just have to watch when transporting itAdjusting the right arm will not help the travel height problem, i reckon you have both arms too long so its not picking up high enough to travel or mow.
Offset toppers are sods for not picking up high enough when swung round topping, you have to have the link arm nearest the blades shorter and have the sliders on the opposite arm locked to stop the arm being lifted up with the weight of the offset topping bed. B--tards to get on/off with link arms at different lengths too
You mist it,Has the OP told us what tractor the mower is on? Or did I miss it?
Now you've hurt my feelings. You surely know how sensitive I am!You mist it,

I always adjust the top link so that the mower is angled forward slightly, it won't dig in unless you have it too short. Shortening the top link seems to make it pick the end up better on mine....thanks, surely though the top link is correct if the drums are even when on the ground, if the top link is too short the front of the drums would dig into the ground and too long the back of the drums would dig in?
Depends what your cutting and how long a stubble you want to leave. In a heavy crop that's fallen over you will likely need to tip the drums forward a bit by shortening the top link, to get it to cut properly.thanks, surely though the top link is correct if the drums are even when on the ground, if the top link is too short the front of the drums would dig into the ground and too long the back of the drums would dig in?
I never lift the mower in work as I reckon the strain in constantly lifting and lowering it is much greater than any strain it encounters by sliding along. I mow in lands and just do the headland turns in towards the mower as much as possible to avoid wear and stress, then just sort out the grass when I rake it.When you start mowing you should adjust the leveling box on your tractor so that the slider is in the centre of the slots on level ground.
With a smaller tractor you might find it easier not to pick your mower up when your working. I run mine on a DB 995 and never pick it up until I've finished the field
