So, UK Red Tractor assured farms are ensuring high food and environmental standards, vs imported foodstuffs which have not met the UK's high standards.

Can we ask for this to be included as an ELMS payment option...

ACCS, £100/acre

Fat cattle, £100/head

Sheep/pigs, £20/ head
Potatoes + veg etc, £250/acre.

This way, we would actually get paid for our higher UK production costs and costs of adhering to Red Tractor standards.

Edit, forgot about you egg and poultry producers. £0.50 per table bird, £0.03/egg.

Why can't the UK government just impose the same environmental and health standards to imported products? We are after all a free and independent country now aren't we?

I agree, but doubt they will.

Thought this might be a way of getting paid for adhering to RT standards through ELMS. public good of high environmental and welfare standards, to an already recognised scheme.

Why red tractor standards, just about all the important stuff is covered in uk legislation so provided your abiding by the relevant legislation that should be enough.
There’s plenty of evidence of some rt inspectors being over zealous with their interpretations of the rules, without giving them additional powers which could greatly influence farm profitability

I think your applying to much commonsense to a situation that can be made over complicated by a government department.
Remember payments to farmers is actually about employing people & putting money into the economy so the more jobs it creates in implementing the scheme the better.

Maybe (because i actually detest RT), we just ask for an ELMS payment just to compensate us for adhering to UK food and farming standards, which are over and above many standards from the rest of the world.

Not being able to use Neonics or Metaldehyde for example, are environmental goods that UK ag is being asked to deliver.

Payment for higher levels of accreditation is more interesting, we all know red tractor is a joke and carries little weight with consumers

Don't do Fat cattle, don't do cereals, don't do sheep/pigs or veg. Have 150 suckers and sell as stores...... what would I get?

Fair point. Wasn't meant to be an exhaustive list. Suckler cow payment? and a better price for your stores. A fat cattle payment would maybe filter into the whole supply chain.

My point really is that we should somehow get paid for the public good of high food and environmental standards.

I'm afraid that as the NFU have a vested interest in Red Tractor and are our 'voice' to government I think the reality will be that you can only claim ELMS if your a red tractor member.
