Extase, can you drill it early?

Last year I drilled 10th Oct and it did what it was meant to and performed well, this year though I’m wondering about drilling earlier with the view to graze it. Will the grazing reset the plant to a position of a later drilled crop or will it shoot through the growth stages too early and amount to not a lot next harvest? My agronomist thinks it will do the latter due to its French breeding

Drilled Extase second week of October here last year. Grazed end of Feb/start of March. Yield was 0.4t/ha better on the grazed compared to the ungrazed. Extase has a very vigorous growth habit, think you’re likely to cause yourself problems with very early drilling

That’s the kind of growth (maybe a little bit more) I’m looking to achieve, I think by drilling 10/14 days earlier that’s what I’d get

Climate totally different in Yorkshire than Somerset but can only report on some drilled here Sept 30th 2021 . Went in after a 4 year temp ley, plastered with muck and by late Feb 2022 was at GS 32. No nitrogen applied at all and by late march had gone flat ! Suffice to say it didnt do well.

wonder if dawsum sown last 1/2 of sept which has yielded well here this last couple of years but would have done even better if it hadnt gone down on the fitter bits this year . It didnt touch the ground unlike some wheats round here nor did it sprout just heads laid on other stems . sown early would it benefit from a light graze with lambs if conditions allowed if so when ? . I ve never run sheep across wheat in a planned way though the old guys used to do it ?, ( always open to learn )

If you are grazing it you could drill it in August and not have any bother. Ungrazed I wouldn't want to drill earlier than mid Sept but that may be the equivalent of October down south. Sterility is definitely an issue with it though
