North Yorkshire so not Cumbria admittedly but not darn sarf either!

key to it all is keeping a close eye on the weather forecast
First year I went on my own I cut down my only field of grass for haylage. Forecast good for 5 days.
By the time I got in for tea they'd changed their minds and it was rain for the foreseeable.
Baled it in the drizzle as the weather moved in🙁.
That was 20 odd years ago.
Never been caught out quite as bad as that since but it can happen.

We have our own kit as-well and it does reduce the risk but baled many thousand bales over the years, when contracting, in the rain.
Interesting enough we are having to bale our silage wetter with a diet mixer as you need the moisture for meal to stick to the grass or the buggers spend all day nosing it about.
