Flail toppers

Got a Kuhn 280 here and it's survived everything I've thrown at it..... and i really am a typical rough on machinery livestock farmer.

Run it on a 80hp JD, best thing I did to was swap the hammers for knives,
The topper takes far less power to start and run, plus does a massively better job, my plan was knives for summer and hammers for winter scrub cutting, but the knives are much better for scrub too!

Defo worth getting knives priced up at new
Assumed one was just offered choice of hammers or y shaped flails not sure I know what knives look like in this context.

Looking at new flail topper, 2.45 to 2.6m cut, have narrowed it down to Teagle, spearhead HD and weaving wkn, anyone with recent experience of these models, looking most likely for heavier duty than we might need as want one which will last and can occasionally do saplings growing up in game cover.

Morning Pgk,

We have an extensive range of flail mowers at Razorback uk. Have a look through and if you have any questions give the office a call.

Agrimaster, 100% recommend. Tough bit of kit, ours is over 15 years old as see's heavy work.

Good price and they do a heavy duty version but TBH I don't think its needed.

Have you a picture of the knives please

I'll grab a photo when I'm near the topper.

They are back to back J flails,
I had wanted the ones with a forward facing flat flail in the middle too, so you'd get a tigher cleaner cut, as the back - to - backs leave a finish in similar dimensions to corrugated iron.
But I'm glad I didn't as the central flail wouldn't have lasted 2 seconds on gorse cutting!

Ah I see the problem, when I say Knives, I mean what you call Y flails, they are 2 J shaped flails back to back.

In the operators manual there's a option of J/Y flails with a small flat front facing flail in the middle of the J/Y flails, to leave a more even finish
