Food Shortages

Farmers should welcome food shortages-there's nothing nothing better than a shortage to push up prices. Just look at fertiliser manufacturing!

But, is there really a food shortage? Or is it just a supply chain issue?

Despite filling stations running out, there's no fuel shortage, it's just that the refineries can't get it moved out. There's no HGV driver shortage as half of those with the licence (like myself) no longer drive HGV's.

Now, a cynic (like myself) might say that shortages of working drivers leading to empty s/market shelves might well have been predictable. But that big business is happy for this to happen as the consequences will be easing of driver testing standards and more drivers coming in from abroad, leading to more drivers chasing jobs which will in turn help keep wages down. Everyone in the transport industry knew 5 years ago (even before Brexit) that a driver shortage was looming but no one did anything serious--like increasing wages, improving working conditions or training new drivers-- to change it.

CF have played a blinder on a similar thought process-shut the plant down-we know that will cause chaos for CO2 users, then someone will have to pay us to start up again.

Isn't the free market a wonderful thing.

FFS - try singing from a different song sheet for a change.
Nothing wrong with prices that I can see here
Cattle & lamb prices here are at unprecedented, scarily unsustainably high prices.
Durum at over $400 / tonne
Canola ( osr ) at $900 . . .
Prices for all commodities are much higher than I’ve ever seen them.
It’s a great time to be farming.
what’s the issue ?View attachment 987476View attachment 987477

The issue is that input costs have risen just as quickly. Meaning GM is not much different. Add in spiralling inflation plus ridiculously low interest rates and it's not that Rosie.

No shortages just too many RT like assessors going round getting up drivers noses critiquing these hard working guys.

Why would you put up with one of these jobsworth with their fecking clipboard when you can switch jobs easily for something with less hassle

WTF is the point of putting prices up for produce on the other side of the world ?
Look at post # 2.
Grain price ATM seems reasonable compared to the late 90's. So what ? What's wrong with wanting more ?
Do plumbers and other tradesmen peg their prices at 1990's levels, cos they're embarrassed to want more ? Don't think so.
Jeeeez. This forum takes the biscuit factory.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

because grain prices are ALWAYS related to international prices, plus or minus the local basis

as we are an export driven industry, our prices ( on the other side of the world ) are always driven by international prices.
So, the prices we get are always related to what is happening in the EU, the Black Sea, USA, Canada etc etc - the rest of the world . . .

it is a global economy & market

if international prices are higher than your domestic prices, then why are you selling domestically ???

sell to the highest bidder, don’t whinge about how bad prices are when they are obviously higher in other markets
