Grain contracts

Just noticed that my smallish grain trader has extended his payment terms, anyone else noticed this with other companies??

Nope both of the traders I deal with and have sold to for deliver march are still on 28 days post movement and 14th of the month following movement.

If your not happy to wait ask for it to be amended to 28 days or go else where.

Looks like argrain contract judging by the paper. Never paid on time when I dealt with them . Cheques you could guarantee fall on the mat on a Saturday morning regardless whether it was due the Monday before . Once sold said firm feed barley to then have it collected and lorry driver inform me it was off to flambrough maltings . You can guess the outcome of that

That does look like Argrain. Perhaps they are slow being paid so want to hang onto the cash for a bit longer to ensure they have theirs from the consumer first? We get paid by Argrain via BACS, though I'm not sure when it actually lands in our account. We store grain for them so frequently it doesn't physically move when we sell to them.

Paid on the 28th of the next month after collection.
2 loads due for collection in October. Didn't get collected till beginning of November. Assumed they'd still have the decency to pay up at the end of the month as per contract. Nope, rolled it over till December. Ever get the feeling your the wrong end of the food chain ?

That's wrong and I hope you've told them so. I've had contracts rolled forward for £1/t/month extra. If they were late collecting I'd have a chat - usually they would either pay sooner or pay extra. If I needed it moved because of space and/or cash I'd also discuss that with them early on. It's just basic communication IMHO.

Here are their accounts for the last year. They are not an indication of the future, but I haven't seen anything that bothers me.

didn't you get it tested for malting before selling?

I've noticed credit insurance on my deductions? What's that

Insuring you against non payment at the other end. Openfield?

Many merchants have their own credit insurance against non payments, and hide the cost in their quoted price to you. If they can't get credit insurance on that customer, it's time to stop selling to them! I've checked out a few merchants in the past when payment timings started slipping as my finance director had contacts in the credit business. Luckily, I've not been burned yet & the one merchant I was worried about is now under new ownership.

yu aint bin up ere lang enuff, !!!!!! seriously any extension in payment terms when every body else is 28 days would make me nervous even allowing for the fact that most trade seem to now pay by bacs at the end of the week its due
