Now that harvest is under way, we would love to know how your harvest is going and what your yields are on your trial fields. Share your pictures & figures below.

Have you received a FETF421 grant for an Onboard weighing system for agricultural trailers, and for which one?
I've seen the Topcon 'TT weigh' for 1 trailer and 'TT weigh +' which can be calibrated for 5 trailers, which I hope can be used for 1 trailer and 5 tramlines/part fields/small fields. Before I order I'd like to know it is eligible.
I'm told Defra know of one that fits the spec, but won't say which!
This should be the easiest way to measure part fields and act as a check for the combine yield monitor for next harvest. Does anyone have experience using these?

No knowledge of on-board weighers, but it would certainly save lots of driving over the field & back to the steading between each plot.

We cut our organic Dawsum winter wheat today which we have been collected root & soil samples for Bofin for. Attached is our yield monitor image. We took a section of the field & measured 4 full combine widths over the weighbridge to calculate the yield for each 'plot'. Please note though, yields are a slight estimate as size of each plot was measured on the yield monitor ruler & aerial map, so may be slightly inaccurate.

In our trial, we did alternated 48m strips of untreated and treated with 'Fixio' - a product made by Itaka in Italy. Fixio is made up of bacteria which fix nitrogen in the soil & make the nitrogen in muck more available to the plant. It was sprayed on in April, around GS30. Also in the trial, the whole field got a small 4t/ha top dressing of hen muck, except one 48m strip.

The treated plots had an average yield of 5.51t/ha. The untreated with muck plots had an average yield of 5.32t/ha. Therefore on average the Fixio gave an extra 0.2t/ha (4%). This is alot smaller difference than we saw in trials last year, but yields in our winter crops are quite a bit down on averages. Its certainly not been an average year!

The plot with no hen muck yielded 4.84t/ha, 0.5t/ha less than the untreated with hen muck plots.

It will be really interesting to see how this information correlates with all of the root & soil samples in due course.

This looks like really good results, although agree that the yield differences are a bit disappointing. Could this be the variability in the plots that are cancelling out the differences? The average yield of each plot can mask differences where there is variability in the field. ADAS Agronomics is a service that takes account of these differences, which we're planning to apply some of the Y2 plots. It would good to hear from any Root Rangers who'd like to use this service to give more insight into their trial. https://adas.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/ADAS-Agronomics-final.pdf @TomWilkinsonADASCropPhys
