Evening and hello,
Just a quick first question.
Can anyone identify this particular machine?
I'm looking at a project flail and this has come up as a howard but honestly..i dont think it is.
The knives are a straight cut but i can find not a single plate or marking on the frame or parts.
I would say its more like a chopper..maybe for straw rather than a flail mower but im at a total loss..any help or thoughts would be welcome.
Its been repainted in the past but the undercoat is still orange if it helpThanks G

Like @dickspanner says, Wilder straw chopper....

....designed many moons ago in Lincolnshire by Jimmy Rainthorpe and sold at one time as Wilder-Rainthorpe.

With a combination of long and short blades to suit the rows it could also be used to flail potato tops off.

It was an unusual machine so i had to buy it..you know the way😂...but i do have a job in mind that this might do the trick at a push...i have around 4 acres of brush to bring down..not to finish but just to fell mainly brambles and a few self set seedlings of around 1\4"..now reading what little is out there..a model of these was used for heather clearing...have you ever heard of these being used this way?

Should be a standard 540. Don’t think 1000 has been invented when that was made🤣
Geoff Mathews engineers at holmewood should be able to get most bits you need

@yellowbelly Mine of information!! I did not know that John Rainthorpe's Dad invented that. I met him (John) only once in the NFU tent at the County Show and had a very enjoyable lunch together!!

Just have a look at the canvas thing in the drive line les carter was struggling to get them . We still have two of them just for topping daffodils as that job gives normal potato toppers some stick.
