Hi farmers,

I am a student working on a cutting edge solution for farmers and their agricultural matters! I would really appreciate if someone could post what their daily routine in the farm is like- whether its managing crops, live stock, how its done, how soil samples are taken and and what time of the year? things like these to give me an insight to the life of a farmer.

This would be great for me farmers!

best
Rebecca.

Is your cutting edge solution to do with blades going blunt?

What does routine mean:scratchhead:

Whilst most replies are somewhat facetious, you cannot expect anything else. I am all in favour of helping young people who want to learn and do my best to respond to sensible posts. The problem is that so many of you seem to lack any knowledge of the world. Where have you been, what sort of education have you had, and what have you learned about farming in the first 20 or so years of your life?

Even if you do have a "cutting edge solution", to what is it the solution? Perhaps we do not have the problem you think we have. Or perhaps we do. Please tell us what the problem is.

I am well past my best before date so need to have a fair idea of what my work load is going to be tomorrow, but the weather can change that. For instance last night I decided I would do some blossom time spraying today on drupes - I am mainly in trees. A strong wind stopped that, so I continued with the ongoing task of olive pruning. Tomorrow morning I am going into town for some necessary supplies. I have even had a shave in preparation. The Brits in Portugal tend to have scruffy beardlets (if there is such a word) and long hair, often a pony tail, and that is just the men.

My routine is usually not a routine, but different tasks every day. I am sure you do not want a record of what I did each day through 2016, but if you want to know generally what I did over a period of about 60 years then I will give you my favourite expression "It is in the book".

Get yourself some wellies, and find a farm willing to give you some work experience, that's best way to find out what's going on and will give you an insight into the life of a farmer.

Whilst you're there suggest little things the farmer could change to make their life easier, the grumpy response you get will soon teach you that you can't teach an old dog new cutting edge solutions (y)

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
