Does anyone have a cure for this disease that seems to be quite common with farmers?

On a serious note is it possible to help change a hoarder, I’ve been trying for around twenty years and as soon as you seem to be getting somewhere it’s soon back to normal.
 
I know I'm a hoarder, I'll get really ruthless sometimes and have a big clear out fire and scrapping session, then it starts to build up again...

What's hoarding? Would that be anything like going to the recycling centre and coming home with more than you took in? The trouble is, so much of that rubbish I was thinking I should throw out years ago is appearing on Drew Pritchard's 'Salvage Hunters' for ridiculous prices. If I hold on a bit longer. it's sure to be worth more....

In March last year we put the farm on the market. I employed a guy to help me get rid of 20 years of useful stuff. Corvid came along and stopped the sale.
I still wake up screaming dreaming about how F in stupid I was.
How stupid were you? Scrapped a green and yellow 4wd fordson major? Or a most perculiarly styled German tractor that looks sh!t but isn’t and member on here was fortunate enough to have rusting in his shed and sold for gazillions?! Or you threw away a load of old hay Bob tines that might have been useful?!

You can almost guarantee that as soon as you chuck something out that might be useful one day it will indeed be needed.

Some years ago, as part of an application for HLS/ELS moving from a CSS Agreement, I had some young woman (NE I expect) wander around the farm and offer "advice" on how to improve various aspects of the farmstead. One major one she proposed, was to remove the various piles of steel and old machinery off to the scrapyard.

She was a little put out when I refused, on the grounds that this was my steel and spares stockpile...

I was on a road trip in western australia in 2008 and somewhere north of perth i headed off the highway to find a bed and breakfast and i passed a field of maybe 20 acres rammed full of old tractors and machinery, hardly rusted at all

Like teh USAF base in the desert in central USA, The Boneyard. Full of redundant and old planes.

It’s surprising how often you can find a bit of steel you need in a scrap pile, and no matter how good the scrap price it’s a pittance compared to buying new, let alone the time saving and convenience of having it on farm, especially as steel stock holders don’t work the days/hours we do.

Yep, a bit of box or a strip of flat, it's a quick repair on Sunday morning usually... :)

There's a big difference between a nice pile of useful scrap steel and a huge yard full of rubbish that may contain the odd decent bit of steel.
If you don't have a tidy organised place, then you don't realise what you have and probably spend too much time looking for something or moving stuff to get to stuff.
