How long after spraying Glysophate

Light is required for Glyphosate to work but it depends on the formulation. The labels provide some pretty helpful information.

Some branded Roundup have 1 hour cultivation window and better rainfastness claims. Generics seem to say 24hrs in general. Never had an issue with 24hrs here which is what we always try to acheive.

Need to spray off before drilling. The drill would go tomorrow but it needs spraying the wind is down in the morning. Would you go? Very bad blackgrass.

Glyphosate works best in the morning. Something about the stoma being open. At this time of year & the fact that you have bad blackgrass, I'd give it as long as you dare. 24 hours is safest but less for a dry sunny day & a decent rate with wetters etc.

Personally I wouldn't have an issue with drilling almost immediately after spraying if it’s only small stuff like that. The spray won’t get knocked off the leaf so will still kill the plants. Any plants the drill cuts up won’t survive in any event.

Before now I’ve sprayed plants by accident, washed them with water and it’s still killed the plant.
I knew a few who did the same, worked Ok. Drill followed the sprayer: any plants buried by the drill would die anyway, any not buried would carry on taking up glyphosate.
Disclaimer: above is an anecdote, not a recommendation!

How long do you leave drilling or cultivating after spraying glysophate. A farm manager I used to work for would only give it an hour!!!

we’ve been using Glyphosate & farming zero till in this country for over 40 years.

how long to leave between spraying & planting really depends on your planter & the amount of disturbance / soil throw it has

the chemical needs time to get into the plant . . .

in our summer crop systems using double disc planters on metre rows ( in zero till & retained straw, you can hardly see where the planter has been ), we will happily spray immediately in front of the planter, or behind it

using tynes in narrower spacings, that may cause more disturbance & throw more soil, then at least a few hours or the day before is preferable

however - once that glypho has hit the plant, the game is pretty much over
