How much does Anwen charge ?

Just been watching Welsh farming and there was an advisor called Anwen who also had a spray tan advising a farmer milking 580 cows from Cardigan .. she visits regularly taking silage samples and advises on feeding she compared a good pit of silage as been full of £50 notes
I don't know what she would compare not so good silage with as could easily happen
As with so many advisers I wonder what practical experience she has
We were milking on a very small scale but managed without any advice

If its the Anwen that I'm thinking of she is an independent nutritionist and very good at her job. She has looked after my 300 for 2 years and i have no complaints also pushing me on cow comfort.

Seems to have a good CV:

Anwen Jones has recently joined Lallemand Animal Nutrition as Regional Business Manager for Wales. She brings a diverse range of experience to this role as she grows the uptake of Lallemand Animal Nutrition products across the feed industry.

Anwen has 18 years’ experience of working in the ruminant animal sector and her main experience includes dealing with dairy, beef and sheep farmers focusing on nutrition, rationing and management.

What is your background?

I began my career working for Bocm Pauls before moving to Keenan, where the passion grew in ruminant nutrition and formulating diets for over 120 herds in Wales. Having moved to Mid Wales after getting married and starting a family I then moved to Strathclyde Nutrition advising and selling a wide range of products including feed blocks, mineral supplements, and grain preservatives to farmers and merchants.

For the last 5 years I have worked for Bibby Agriculture as Dairy Development Manager, working with progressive dairy systems, with a strong focus on nutrition, production and cow welfare. A particular focus has been the role of nutrition by concentrating on transition cow management, rumen efficiency and looking at ways to improve cow husbandry.

What is your role with Lallemand Animal Nutrition?

I will be working with farmers, distributors and feed mill’s, providing technical support and training. I will promote the range of Lallemand Animal Nutrition products to new and existing customers in order to extend their use on the farm.

What is your driving objective?

Having concentrated on nutrition and animal feed for many years, my primary objective is to improve and increase focus on production from forage. For our farmers to remain sustainable, we need to push the boundaries on production from home grown feeds and all types of forage. This is the most productive feed they have on farm and by far cheaper than most raw materials. We are in a market where costs are increasing, margins are being squeezed and the demands of consumers and regulators are increasing. My goal is to work with farmers to maximise their forage quality thus ensuring herds reach their potential yields and performance.

How does working for Lallemand Animal Nutrition help you achieve this?

Lallemand Animal Nutrition is at the forefront of the development of high quality nutritional products to drive efficiency in all classes of farm livestock. The products are based on access to considerable global R&D including the discovery of the patented strain L. hilgardii I-4785 that has been registered for use in silage inoculants, in combination with L. buchneri 40788, already the most widely proven strain for aerobic stability. The combination has been launched as the Magniva Platinum range and includes inoculants for grass, maize and wholecrop. The Magniva brand replaces the Biotal range in the UK and Ireland In many sectors of the industry, Lallemand Animal Nutrition are market leaders which speaks volumes for the company.

What sort of "practical experience" would you want someone who specialises in animal nutrition to have?
I've no idea what a "spray tan" has to do with it?

I watched the show, and the point about clamping £50notes was to demonstrate that you make sure not to lose any £50 when claming. Same as silage, effort should be made on sealing the clamp well, good consolidation and keeping a tidy face at feedout to avoid any more spoilage. All points that many farmers know, but can easily be overlooked if attention is not paid on dooing the job properly.
