Is anyone still buying side by side 12 bores ?

My dad has a side by side 12 bore that he bought back in the 80’s, it’s been in a sleeve in the gun cabinet ever since and never had a cartridge through it.
He seems to think it ought to be worth a bob or two, I think he might be disappointed 🙄

Gun values go up and down depending on what the current fashion is.
Once upon a time, if you turned up at a shoot with an under-and-over, you didn’t get invited again.
Then there are antique guns and the dilemma as to whether you still use it or not.
IMO if you can shoot reasonable well with it, why not? Even if it is 125 years old and a reasonable good, sort after brand!

Steel shot is the biggest issue, it almost certainly won’t have a steel proof. At least a couple of the shoots around me are saying non lead only next season.

Having said that there is one team on the shoot I pick up for that will only use side by sides.

Unless it is a higher end name it won't be worth much. The local dealer gave me a nominal £25 for two side by sides as part of a purchase against an nice ou There were any number on a side rack for Less than a hundred.

I have been led to believe high performance steel is for fluer dy lys stamped guns only.

Non high performance steel ie; Steel shot can be used in nitro proofed guns with no tighter than half choke.

Friend of mine is trying to get me to use his OU 28 bore. Says I will love it. I’ve been resisting and have probably had my best season ever with my Aya 2.
ive enjoyed shooting so much this season I can’t bring myself to use any other gun
