Went into w h smiths, just before the new year to purchase a duplicate book, as id bought the previous year, they didnt have one, but thats another story, so the next best thing was a "W H Smith" branded, order book, with the words on the front, W H Smith order book, in small writing at the bottom, produced in china, got me thinking? where does the pulp to make the paper come from? we had here in the UK or have pulping mills that can make paper? Yes i know w h smith, are under tremendous pressure to source product from wherever in the world? Like me, us buying tools, etc etc etc that are sourced from china, what do others think, plus does large scale paper manufactur still take place here in the UK, i know a few years back there was a paper milling plant in kent, farms could get the waste, byproduct as a soil conditioner has that closed/finished?

United Paper Mills - UPM is a Finnish company. Many mills all over the world, usually as part of the process they produce electric & heat for the local town.

They also plant trees etc.

What was the brand sold in the old woolworths stores, the books that had the speckerly covers, as a child i saw our milkman used one, he used to have a leather satchel type bag that was slung over his shoulder, where said payments book, lived in one of the pockets?

They don't care about intellectual property rights so will reverse engineer anything that they can sell/use. So if there is a demand for it there will be a factory somewhere to produce it. Whether the QA/QC is up to scratch depends on the vendor doing due diligence on their manufacturing process/materials etc as they will give you any certification you want.

Freedom of speech? The vote? Disease that doesn't affect the whole world, as in an open doors approach (truth telling policy) when it invariably does...
Not copy others intellectual rights? And manufacture lower grade materials with higher grade certifications on them.

That's slowly changing. Just look at how JLR won it's case against Jiangling Motor Corporation a couple of years ago over their blatant copy of the Evoque. Two or three decades ago that case would never have even got to court.
