Regarding RT and NFU...
I know many think we screwed and nothing can be done.
But everyone used to laugh at and ignore UKIP as a wasted vote.
They kept plugging away and in the end forced torys into a referendum and we now out of the EU.
All thanks to a small political party who believed in a cause.

RT and NFU can be broken.
But it needs all farmers to stick together and put pressure on.
First thing is ALL who are members must resign membership NOW.
No waiting till it runs out. NOW.

You must then look for insurance quotes elsewhere. Plenty good brokers about.
We left nfu years ago as were to expensive.
If your pee'd off, the act, not sit moaning to your neighbour but carry on as normal.
The NFU has shown if does not care for farmers or represent farmers wishes. So why be a member.
LEAVE NOW.

I left the NFU a few years ago (due to a disagreement on another matter, but it was clear even then that they had no real interest in their farmer members) and finally decided to cancel my FW subscription last week as it seems they have become just a mouthpiece for RT.

i wish I could leave NFU for a second time just to prove a point!

I'm not NFU and I don't like the RT, but how do I sell cattle and grain without RT? It's chicken and egg, until there's no choice or a viable alternative market then we're stuck... Unfortunately the RT has a total monopoly and is the gate keeper that enables farmers to sell produce to the commercial market. And there are plenty of vultures ready to exploit the non-assured produce... which I know from bitter experience... RT is run like a cartel with the big players so they can dictate to individuals the way they produce for the cartel or they don't get to sell to the market. It's a total joke but there doesn't appear to be a way out...

I must say that the members of Devon NFU I've met have all been good to excellent.
Having expressed my wish to cancel my membership we have subsequently had a discussion and I was genuinely impressed by how much work had been done on many subjects of which I was not aware. I was also feeling optimistic when I was told of the tremendous backlash from members over RT. Excellent I thought, it is actually working.
I was then told it was inconceivable that the NFU would countenance any kind of 'end' to RT and that actually they were rather minded to have them monitor/ audit any future 'carbon capture/data' scheme.

I will be confirming that I do not wish to be a member of the NFU for as long as RT membership is effectively compulsory. I don't really care how they do it, but it should only ever be optional or otherwise there will never be a premium and there will never be an end to the escalation of requirements and the over reaching of their jurisdiction.

It's difficult if you sell corn in any quantity . I'm very small corn wise only 30 /40 acres and I feed most of it . When I do sell I have no problem finding a buyer for non RT Barley and the price is usually the same ,but as I point out it's only 20 tonne or so . We have stopped sending cattle on the fat as we are finding the store selling so good . We are RT on the livestock ATM but when it comes for renewal we have decided to carry on until we get an inspection and if the inspector gets assey the same as the last one did then we will just tell them to bugger off .

LEAVE NOW.
You left the NFU - not your problem anymore.
Leave RT - that won't be your problem either.
Neither organisations are a requirement for a happy life. 🙂

Although I'm both cattle and sheep assured also arable I'm finding you don't need to be cattle/sheep assured to sell fat through the live ring the buyers arnt bothered it's just the supermarkets when you sell direct to them with the grain I only grow 150/170 acres mostly fed to my own animals

And this is why they want to bring in whole life assurance because then they've got you cornered too.
They know they need compulsion as they don't offer any incentive to join.
