Krone 4 rotor Tedder

The older ones don't have grease nipples for the section pivots. And especially with a 6 rotor, with a bit of wear the outer rotors scratch the ground, while the middle rotors don't lift clean. Quick cure was to set it up on level concrete and cut the end of the offending tines off. Most other makes do a far bette job of the tedding too.

I'd say to future proof yourself a nice tidy little 4 rotor tedder would be an improvement on a haybob. I'd recommend a Malone. My previous tedder, a Kverneland, wasn't too bad. But like I said earlier when I demo'd a Krone I thought it was awful.

I’ve had 2 second hand krone tedders, both tedders were poor, slipped timing in heavy crops, seemed quite weak on the arms, we’ve had quite a few cheap other branded tedders and never had a problem. Just my experience of course.

We've a 4 rotor krone and like ours. Very good build quality and like the octolink drive train to the outer wings. Ours is the biggest 4 rotor (5.52?) And is paired with a 2.7m krone mower. We ted 2 rows at a time so that each is in the middle of 2 baskets and find it makes a good job. Didnt test any other makes so can't comment on how the pattern compares to others, but we've never had an issue with it. I personally like the border spread system too where the whole tedder angles and flicks the grass into the field.

I had a krone 4 rotor for 10 years or so.
Certainly wouldn't say it was awful, and would be a huge step up from a haybob. You need to vary pto speed considerably to get a decent spread pattern depending on grass type, which is just trial and error.
Biggest fault I had with it was the wheel shaft seizing where it goes down through the rotor. Its supposed to twist for the headland kick in set up, but there were several years mine had to be freed after winter storage ( not always under cover though). They needed grease nipples imo.
Yes there are better machines. I like my lely that replaced it, and the malone with same hooked tines seems good.
But I wouldn't be afraid of a krone on a budget presuming it was well looked after. Condition is going to be more important than brand with an older machine imo.
