We a Krone Big X 770 (2016). It has twice had different valve heads replaced due to broken exhaust valves!
Man engine D2868 LE121.
This engine was also used by Claas. I understand that here too there was a problem! How was this resolved by Claas?
Has anybody else out there had this problem, and how was it resolved by Krone?
The OP from Krone says check valve clearance every 500 hours, but if it breaks after 300 hours!

If I remember correctly, that engine is running egr system.
We traded our last machine early that had that engine due to hearing several horror stories.

Delete egr or else change engine oil and filter more often

The dealer comes and does both the oil/filter change and valve clearance together. By the book. Now 300 hours after the last service!

This sounds like the fendt deutz saga; each blaming the other. MAN have a great reputation, and I would like to see or hear the outcome. Krone would be looking to get into the forager market, so having a problem like this, or not keeping customers happy would only lower sales. Would I be right in thinking legally this would be a krone problem? Easiest route will probably be to hammer out a deal on a new model?

We do a lot of work on a biogas MAN chp, we change heads around every 20k hours as the valves start regressing, once they start they go very quick

The biogas environment is not good for valves. Our heads get changed at 28k hours on our MAN. The only time we have had an issue was shortly after a head change, one valve seat failed and the vibration destroyed the flexible coupling to the alternator. Much better than the Merc engine we had in our Krone Big X at 2200 hours. Neither Merc not Krone would stand by it.

Did that create a new ventilation hole in the block ?

That is standard for Merc they all ways walk away from a problem
Had a TF 46 new with a small leak at the back of the engine they sent some one out said yes there is an oil leak it will have to come in the there truck depot to sort it 50 miles away.
we said how are you going to get it there they said it was our problem.
The dealer then took it on them self to do it it turned out to be a threaded hole that had been over drilled and not used so just put a bolt in with sealant and that sort it out.
merc did not want to know
Because of doing something on that engine stooped all engine warranty so we do not have any thing to do with merc machines now.

This is a disgrace. If I was a manufacturer, and I was having major component failures like that, I would want to know about it and why it happened and how I stopped it happening to other customers in future.

Doesn't matter if I was selling the whole machine or just the engines to go in someone else's machine.

Very poor for a MAN engine at those hours i think .I wonder if the MAN powered trucks are the same or are they on a different emissions system. I thought they did biblical hours and miles .

Well that's the point of this forum. Some people keep things to themselves, but thankfully, those that share information like this, is invaluable and a big warning. All manufacturers will invariably run into end user issues, but it appears few want anything to do with the end user. Or reseller. They just want to know how many units this month, and cheque please.
In some way I pity the dealers. They seem to be the ones, that sort it all out.
So much for German engineering?

Hmmmmm..........

MAN has admitted that to date it has repaired or completely replaced nearly 300 early Euro-5 EGR 12.4-litre D26 engines in the UK because of EGR cooler and/or high-pressure intercooler faults.

The necessary work has been conducted free of charge and regardless of warranty status, said MAN – assuming that its maintenance recommendations have been followed and its service consumables used.

However, aware that other early D26s may fail too, the truck maker appointed a specialist at its UK head office in Swindon to interpret the results of a nationwide oil analysis programme that has been conducted to help it identify the warning signs as early as possible....
