Kverneland 832 straw chopper

I had one for 15 years and learnt very quickly that it didn’t cope at all well with round bale silage, I never tried it with clamp silage, but if you want to feed round bale silage it most definitely isn’t the machine to buy.
As a straw chopper it gave less trouble in 15 years than my Teagle has in 3.

Take the grabber things off and keep the knives razor sharp. They don't like very dry stuff but wetter lush stuff will fly through. It's the only one I've had so it's probably crap compared to others now!

Id forgot about the grabber things, I had problems with mine when I first had it, had a bit of a moan at Kv’s demonstrator at the Smithfield show and he told me to remove them, that’s how they run their demo machines which left me wondering why they fitted them in the first place.

Thanks for your queries, yes the chop is variable by operating in either 540 rpm or 1000 rpm box. the faster speed gives the finest chop for integrating into diet feeder for cattle. Normally bedding is done in 540 rpm box. The Tube capacity of the model shown is 8m3. with the conical top shown in video. The conical top has a 9' diameter at the top for loading 8 x 4 x 4 bales. Its advisable to take the strings off and load with grab or bucket. The conical tub holds 1 full 8 x 4 x 4 bale. Its very quick to fill

A more helpful answer is yes they will but they are first and foremost a straw chopper. but they will handle silage. More suitable machines are available for silage

What this man said!
Had, in fact still have an KV 832 and tried silage through it a couple of times, worked but very slowly, I would think baled silage would be painful.
Save yourself a lot of grief and get the newer one, KV853.
Never really do silage feeding but our 853 absolutely devours straw compared to the old 832. Different machine to use completely.
I have only tried a Kuhn out of the rest so cant really comment, but really liked the ability to engage the beater once the blowing drum is up to speed, shame it wouldn't blow near as far.

It's a old machine I bought blind at a on line auction last Saturday, in good order for machine I hadn't seen. It doesn't blow far so I thought 1000 might cure that problem, and it's used stable straw

Have a look into the flywheel the paddles are possibly bent back out of shape so will have less blow

ur rite they are bent back a bit, (y), I think I'll try the 1000 at low rpm first, for trial purposes. Then start a r vamp

We had the floor chain break and went into the fan and flattened them all . When I put the new ones in there's a brace across I welded them up more across the back to give more strength and that helped a lot

We run our 853 on the 1000rpm shaft all the time. Not as far as 1000, maybe 800 odd. Does sound like a tornado coming up the pass though.
The 832 we had before had more blow but it was side shute.
Make sure the chain is in good order, and the shearbolt inserts for the beater drive as well.
Our biggest grief was bedding using less than perfect bales and she would grab the centre core of the bale and jam the beater. Shearbolt city!!!, never any bother with the drum.

Thanks for the info, I'll take her apart and see what's what and this one is side shute only , lads said swivel spouts prone to blockages. What's the lever and rope on side for , I know what it does, let's the lad inside back and forth, but what for.
