Don’t like the look of that formulation? Looks a lot of “filler” type products?
Back when we used too feed a lot inside, they were always well bedded on leafy wheat straw every day. They would eat a lot of the softer material for the fibre element of their diet. Without that, yes I can see what you mean about needing the fibre in there! The grass nuts we feed now need a lot of supplementary fibre. Usually good quality haylage in ring feeders outside. Those ‘fillers’ add fibre, which you need in an indoor ad-Lib hogget finishing nut if you are feeding it as a complete ration ime. We used to finish everything on Heygates hogget nuts years ago, which was close to 15% fibre iirc, with a bit of NIS on the ingredients list. It was a fantastic ration for it’s job.
I gave up on that system when the concentrates got to a ludicrous £160/t and they ate nearly £9 worth of grub each. Mind, hoggets we’re £35-40 for a while back then too.
As in an 18% pellet? In my experience the FCR drops massively on the cheaper lower protein diets,it might look expensive per tonne but a lamb creep start to finish pellet has always been least cost per head finished
I’m not knocking RBC, but duggies do have their own reps selling in north York’s so you can buy direct.Dugdales sourced through RBC agriculture
Yes that’s what works for usAs in an 18% pellet?
Ok, I would have thought for finishing lambs that would have promoted further growth at the expense of fat cover?Yes that’s what works for us
We’ve not found that, finished quite a few on a hopper this autumn so put any lamb 36kg plus onto it and we’ve averaged 19.5kgDW which for mainly Romney wethers and cross I’m happy with thatOk, I would have thought for finishing lambs that would have promoted further growth at the expense of fat cover?
Jameson’s Hogg blend is all I use they go mad for it, as long as you can get it to flow down your hoppersI have used both I'ansons and Jamesons pellets both very good, Jameson's Hogg blend is the best I've used for fattening lambs, and what I use now. Fill a hopper put it in field/shed and let them get on with it.
I haven't asked this year, as I had plenty left from last year. @Adam@Rumen might know, as he supplied mine.
I can't be arsed with reps turning up unannounced anyway. Can’t fault both Jamesons hog blend and their 16% lamb finisher nuts. Really good to deal with. We are 5 miles from BATAs mill and they can’t get anywhere near on price or quality. Rep has never been in 33 years either
