Considering a beltex tup this year, so thinking of tupping a small group of our biggest ewe lamb replacements this year. Not something done before. How do those who do this feed? I'm assuming you lift twins to leave her with 1 lamb to rear?
Lamb suffolk xout the mule to a dutch texel for the last few years no bother leave twins on hoggs are no less than 45kg when they go to the tup

Beltex on all our ewe lambs. Biggest hoggs at lambing get left with twins, put on their own and fed plus creep for the lambs. Put them on good grass/keep all winter and give them bugger all corn before lambing

I tup them if they are over 50kg with either a Roussin or Hampshire.
I run twins with twin ewes until 2 weeks before lambing starts at which point I separated them and keep them on 0.5 kg per day.
Singles run with single ewes and get a dusting of feed along with hay.

I used to leave twins on, but now I just lift one and put it on the milk machine.
I have found that leaving 2 on a hogg means she just rears two 50p lambs instead £1
One lamb from our first draw in June was a Lleyn cross hoggs lamb, it was a Roussin female lamb that was born as a twin, it's mate went in the same draw out of the pet pen.

I don't give them any feed, just grass, which is old pp, and leave them to it.
Never used a beltex just lleyn back in the day.
Have only ever assisted 1 or 2 because they weren't presented correctly.
Nothing better than turning up and finding a ewe lamb with its lamb up and about.
They make great mums, stick to their lambs like glue, beats lambing a mental shearling that f××ks off like it's got a rocket up it's @RSE!

Tupped some of ours this year for the first time in any number, so bit of an experiment. After scanning we left twin bearing hogs on herbal leys which they lambed on and received nothing extra. The singles went on to permanent pasture one month before lambing and then into a yard just on hay at
lambing and where turned out onto herbal leys within hours of lambing.

Twins kept their lambs and most reared some nice but small lambs.

Looking to do similar next year.

A lot depends on what breed of sheep they are. Mule hoggs to a Texel, minimal lambing problems unless you totally over feed them, continental hoggs, you walk a tightrope

I never felt like lambing hoggs went as well as it could have until I started lambing them later. Mid April onwards and it went a lot better didn't matter how much they got fed it can't beat grass.
Going to get a couple of teasers done this year to tease them to lamb at the end of April. Will tease them for 2 cycles and lamb them for one cycle end of April till the middle of May.

Totally agree, teasers and lamb from mid April, can drag things out for some people though

Ewe lambs need to be preferably 45 kgs plus at tipping, I feed them a set amount from scanning right through to 2 weeks pre lambing then cut it back, they are still growing them selves so need feed weather it's Grass or meal, if you have a good run of ground then good grass will do the same job
