The little 90 had always been looked after very well mechanically but eventually the rust won and it was time to move it on . Around that time I used to buy and break for spares quite a few Land Rovers and Mick was reluctant to sell me his truck as he didn’t want to see it broken up, after a bit wheeling and dealing I did end up with it and the family assumed it had been broken up and long gone until today . Three years ago we started a full nut and bolt restoration with every part either replaced or rebuilt . A new chassis was purchased but a genuine LR chassis that we then galvanised and then powder coated black . All the mechanical parts were rebuilt every wearing part replaced and completely assembled with stainless fixings . The body work was done a panel at a time by our neighbour who has his own paint shop we replaced all the doors and one front wing the rest is original. Seats are original and the headliner has been recovered, new mats throughout and a heater that works make it a nicer place to be . New decals , wheels ,tyres and a scratch built bull bar to match the original. Yesterday we took it for its mot which it passed with flying colours and today we took it to micks house parked it on his drive and knocked on the door .
running to a tight schedule already.Lovely restoration, only yesterday my 14 year daughter suggested I buy a defender and we spend the next three years doing it up for her to have as first car….
I will give you one piece of advice, set yourself a strict budget…………. Then double itLovely restoration, only yesterday my 14 year daughter suggested I buy a defender and spend the next three years doing it up for her to have as first car….
We have done loads of rebuilds with lots of different modifications but this one has been nice to do as near to standard as we could . Only mods are better heater , soundproofing and disc brake rear axle.Beautiful restoration and good to go for another 10 yrs but not a single chance I'd leave a 200tdi in it now.
M / N57 and zf box conversion & air springs.
QuiteWatch some bugger nick it now.
