Planting huge numbers of trees to mitigate climate change is “not always the best strategy” – with some experimental sites in Scotland failing to increase carbon stocks, a new study has found.

Experts at the University of Stirling and the James Hutton Institute analysed four locations in Scotland where birch trees were planted onto heather moorland – and found that, over decades, there was no net increase in ecosystem carbon storage.....

And on the theme of "Experts got it wrong" BBC News is reporting that rather than seafood having a smaller carbon footprint than other animal proteins a new study says that the Worldwide "bottom trawling (dragging nets across the seabed) industry emits about the same amount of Carbon as the global aviation industry.

I think the goverment should give every house in uk a tree to plant in the middle of their garden / patio/whatevery. (y) Then see how in 30 years time weter the clueless ejits still like trees.like

Think you’ll find Prince Charles has already nicked the idea for the Queens jubilee next year. Calls it “Treebilee”

It all depends which agenda from which direction

Agenda is the right word.

Rewilding is something being used to camouflage a variety of agendas. Shrubsole, who thinks that rewilding is the way of forcing his left-wing wet dreams on others. Tree, who has used "rewilding" to create what is (for want of a better description) a profitable safari park. The RSPB, who're using it as a way to bash DGS. Monbiot, whose using it as an excuse to bash landowners/farmers/sheep. Just a few examples...

It's just old fashioned common sense, something these tree hugging, environmental lefties clearly lack. How is a deciduous tree, through the 5 months of winter, going to sequestration large amounts of carbon ? Compare that to well managed pasture which,in the right conditions can sequestration carbon all year round.
It's as someone said all about hidden agendas and using the climate to hoodwink naive people into changing their diets.
The World has gone mad.

We need more Bogs etc. as they store carbon for thousands of years.

Planting millions of trees with no consideration for the environment is as bad as covering the same area with tarmac. Importing cheap trees or seedlings also brings the potential for serious disease risks.
I am really worried for our native trees for that very reason. Was it not imported infected ashes which started dieback in this country, could be a total cock up , and we may see yet another disease in another tree species. Like Alder or oak.
Do they never learn! My tree planting on this farm now has to come from dug up seedlings against hedge or under trees.Having planted a little Ash wood with bought in trees and lost the lot, not doing that again.
