A new and exciting role, the Livestock Manager will head up a mixed operation consisting of a dairy unit milking over 100 head of cattle, a flourishing beef enterprise and a flock of ewes. Role Responsibilities:
- To manage the day-to-day operations of the farm, ensuring livestock and farmland needs are met
- To oversee the milking routine, monitoring production levels and quality
- To monitor and manage the feeding of all livestock (dairy, beef and sheep) ensuring maximum productivity
- To manage the health and welfare of all livestock, including youngstock
- To manage the fertility of the herd, optimising performance and yield
- To maintain accurate records and on herd hearth, milk production and breeding
- To undertake routine stockman duties, foot trimming and AI
- To oversee a small team, including the creation and management of work rotas
- To undertake routine track and field work when required
Essential:
- Proven knowledge and experience of livestock management and production systems
- Practical knowledge of dairy farm duties e.g. milking, AI, foot trimming
- An interest and understanding of cattle breeding
- Excellent communication skills, able to manage a small team confidently
- Strong organisational skills
- Driven and committed with a positive mindset, eager to embrace new developments
- A practical and flexible worth ethic able to meet the needs of a farming enterprise
- The ability to confidently operate farm machinery
- Proficient IT skills, able to use MS Office Suite
- A UK driving licence
- Qualified in AI, Foot Trimming and Telehandler use
