Log splitter options

I think Elf & Safety have insisted that modern ones need two hands for operation. I have an old one and because I value myself, I haven't chopped a hand off yet. Much easier to operate. But not for the foolish.
Best one I’ve used has a foot pedal to work the ram up and down but is a homemade thing

Ours must be over 40 years old and still winds it’s way through anything you put in front of it. Couldn’t be simpler.
I unfortunately had my HC2X stolen a few years ago. An excellent simple machine, but NEVER grip a log tightly as if you do you will end up with smashed hands.!!!!
I didn’t replace it as I was fortunate to get a grant for a Binderberger 40tonne splitter which the thieves fortunately couldn’t lift by hand and steal.

There's a four way head that slides over the normal one on our posch that's hardly been used. Only suits.a log that is a size that suits splitting once straight down the middle
I have the same idea on my Uniforest.Tried it twice but never got on with the 4way.As you say might be ok for straight knotty less pine or Ash, Great in theory but not in practice
That said I am on about splitting length of wood up to 40” long, might be a different story if splitting 8”-12” diameter rings.

Same here. A lot is over 11" wide,1 metre long so that it will go through the processor

Make it into a 4 way splitter much more efficient
Sadly, I really can't think that a four way splitter is going to be more efficient! at least with a single splitter you can move it around a tricky knotted log, with a four way splitting head you would spend more time trying to get the jammed head out of the log.......

Reading with interest , ive been offered a posch horizontal , self contained on 3phitch and pto far as im aware , haven't spotted it model yet but unload it later all being well.
Bin googling but not really seen this model.
Looks like a polly but a 2012 model
I think posch is a proper brand name 🤔 .
Thus far had use of a home built vertical run of 2 cylinder power pack, actually a stone cropper but that guy may be moving on so buying my own may b wise.
The posch has 4 way and 6 way i believe

Posch is, I think, German. Just been cross cutting logs with my tilting saw bench, so mine's a saw not a splitter. Running off a MF135, the logs drop into the bucket on a 390. Makes for a very smooth operation easily operated by a single 80yo. Can't fault it and would highly recommend anything made by Posch.
