Probably been overheated, the pistons dont like it. Or they just damaged the piston when building it.

Has it been flogged to death on a silage pit just recently ???

Do Manitous not like rolling silage pits? I was on ours at first cut, rolling for a few hours, the temp was getting very hot, regularly. Had to stop at one point as screen flashed up transmission was getting too hot. bit concerning I was being as gentle as possible on it.

Ours is the vario one.

your rad is probably not as clean as you think it is! people greatly under estimate the time required to clean a rad properly.

i spent 3 hrs cleaning one the other week and it was out of the machine on the floor, with steam cleaner, TFR and air line. it was about 98% clean by the time i had had enough!

Every machine ever made has to have a weakest point somewhere and having had Manitou's over a number of years I would think the Powershift gearbox is theirs, I am sure all other makes have something that lets them down , perhaps it's why Manitou seem to be pushing the Vario these days, however we like the PS and it's always done us well

Had 5 manitou 741.s all did well over 5000hrs in 3 years of ownership each never had gearbox issues and they lead 6000 bales behind an artic trailer each year so very disappointed in the new 737 although a cracking machine to drive

Manitou powershift gearbox has hardly changed since 1999 IMO, sometime around 2003 they changed the tolerance of the shafts and stuff i think as they seems to almost stop sh1tting the bearings out every 1000hrs, i say almost cause they do still sometimes have needle roller bearing issues but nothing like they used to in the early days!

The main thing that happened around 2003 was they swapped the clutch pistons from nice aluminium ones with good seals to a pressed steel piston with a rubber seal bonded on to it.

Oh and in 2008 they changed the ECU program to use all 6 gears in the box. pre 2008 they used 1,2,3,4 and 6. as the jump from 4th to 6th was quite a step up they added in the missing 5th gear and when from calling them a 5 speed powershift to a 6 speed when really they was a 6 speed all along :ROFLMAO: :X3:
