Got to be easier than setting these up everytime? Or has my plan just gone up in flames?View attachment 904125
Seeing that takes me back and not in a good way. Exactly how I used to do it.

Just think of it this way.
Each of those railed hurdles weighs just over 50kg and the sheeted ones 60kg plus other bits and pieces you have over 1ton to move each time. So to set up and take down that’s two ton to move before any work with the sheep.
In context Rappa yard total weight 720kg. A hurdle about 8kg
I have a weakness in one side of my back from carrying those hurdles.

The biggest revelation when using the Ali yards is the ability to drag the hurdles around behind the sheep. It makes getting them in so much easier.
Then when they are in you can keep dragging the pen smaller as you work instead of chasing them around a big pen. You have to use it really appreciate how good they are and it will take a few uses to get the hang of what works best.

keep that pile hurdles in the yard where they belong.

Get a scotpen @Dave6170 , built to last and was cheaper than rappa/prattley/alligator and you won’t regret a yard of whatever kind you go for just that you never got it sooner. Kept mine for the wee puckles we still have and wouldn’t be without it

With regards to what some posts have mentioned re moving, once the novelty has worn off .

Theres a need to Differenciate please between trendy 'mobile ' systems ( mobile being the word on all those impressionable lips .).....

Alluminum hurdles have great advantage in sheep handling, nicely designed race panels ditto.

If you just want to move them infrequently as mentioned above then youdont actually need the chassis wheels winch bit ..... do you see what I'm getting at ....?

and no dont blame the manufacturer, they are just trying to make a profit the wheely bit is a way of adding value, and sales pitch.

scroll right on if you dont get what I'm saying....

and yes I know this thread is about mobile sheep handling systems .....(y)

To get the most out of the ali hurdles etc, you do need the race/trailer and whole set up IMO

I've got 3 'fixed' sites I use my yard in, most of the time. Each site is just a clear space, I still need the trailer/race part to give structure to what I build. I have seen, up the field, if I'm just spraying lambs I'll make a long narrow pen up the fence - but I drop the trailer and use its length as 1 side of the pen to keep the shape/rigidity... I definitely need the trailer body

It's just the thought of taking it down/setting it up - it's never as bad as thinking about doing it, though. But I have seen myself take the yard out and set it up the day before, whilst thinking if I don't do this today I will have no notion to work with the ewes tomorrow...
But that may stem from being used to having fixed pens which I brought all the ewes to? Taking the mobile yard up the field, 10-15mins setting up and the same packing away, is still quicker and easier than the old gathering the mob and walking them down to the farm steading (you could lose an hour just fetching them in!)

Buy a heap of Scotpen hurdles and a Glendale/Binns trailer, more versatile trailer for foot bathing, carrying scales, turnover crate, double width drenching race that you can easily walk through, etc.
It's what I would do if I was spending the money again, more versatile and actually getting some trailer for the money.
If you own the sheep grazing, none of them are as handy as a static pen set up on each block imo, you can nip up and do a bunch after tea; if you have to take and set up a pen each time it soon gets old.
