Seeing that takes me back and not in a good way. Exactly how I used to do it.Got to be easier than setting these up everytime? Or has my plan just gone up in flames?View attachment 904125
Yours must be new ours has a hand pump.I got a Scotpen. It's the best in my opinion apart from the 12v hydraulic pump for putting it up and down. Would be far better with a simple hand pump or winch.
Yeh its 2 or 3 years old. To be honest i have never use the trailer part just the hurdles etc either in the shed or to extend my fixed pens and always bring the ewes to pens.Yours must be new ours has a hand pump.
With regards to what some posts have mentioned re moving, once the novelty has worn off .
Theres a need to Differenciate please between trendy 'mobile ' systems ( mobile being the word on all those impressionable lips .).....
Alluminum hurdles have great advantage in sheep handling, nicely designed race panels ditto.
If you just want to move them infrequently as mentioned above then youdont actually need the chassis wheels winch bit ..... do you see what I'm getting at ....?
and no dont blame the manufacturer, they are just trying to make a profit the wheely bit is a way of adding value, and sales pitch.
scroll right on if you dont get what I'm saying....
and yes I know this thread is about mobile sheep handling systems .....
Him off o Blockbusters?Dunno
every time i think it's a drag setting up the alligator i cast my mind back to 20 poldenvale hurdles been dragged in and out of the trailer, that was a twit of a jobTo get the most out of the ali hurdles etc, you do need the race/trailer and whole set up IMO
I've got 3 'fixed' sites I use my yard in, most of the time. Each site is just a clear space, I still need the trailer/race part to give structure to what I build. I have seen, up the field, if I'm just spraying lambs I'll make a long narrow pen up the fence - but I drop the trailer and use its length as 1 side of the pen to keep the shape/rigidity... I definitely need the trailer body
It's just the thought of taking it down/setting it up - it's never as bad as thinking about doing it, though. But I have seen myself take the yard out and set it up the day before, whilst thinking if I don't do this today I will have no notion to work with the ewes tomorrow...
But that may stem from being used to having fixed pens which I brought all the ewes to? Taking the mobile yard up the field, 10-15mins setting up and the same packing away, is still quicker and easier than the old gathering the mob and walking them down to the farm steading (you could lose an hour just fetching them in!)
If someone stole it theyd be doing me a favourAt least it will probably still be there tomorrow morning.
Which is unfortunately not a given with Aluminium ones.
used to have pens on most blocks of keep, but took them all down last year with the increase in stock theft and in field killingAt least it will probably still be there tomorrow morning.
Which is unfortunately not a given with Aluminium ones.
My vote goes to scotpen. This is it tonight in my polly tunnel. Great bit of kit, well made and strong. Tow it with Honda 420 so not too heavy.
I try to set it up in 1 or 2 strategic places on each block of ground. Saves the monotony of setup/packup

My scotpen is similar spec to a Prattley 10’ standard yard. Iirc it was about £5500 but that was at least 10 years agoThat looks a tidy system, any idea on price in comparison too prattley ect??
Aren't they all about the same nowadays to hoover up the grant money?
