surely the easy solution whilst maintaining good trash flow would be to cut the frame and add in another beam for an additional row ?

I'm going to experiment with 10" first though - i reckon its probably fine for wheat and ideal for OSR

im not planning buggering about cross drilling or RTK'ing between rows - one pass to establish a crop is quite enough !
It will all depend on wether any coulters need to be in line with bit of steelwork that's crucial to the frame. I didn't want to cut the frame about so accepted some coulters aren't quite where they need to be. If you look closely at my photos it is evident at this time of year but later on it's not.

Approximately 16.6 cm now.

that's pretty normal but this CO would be at 25.4cm if no extra coulters are added - many would say thats too wide for wheat .......but others wouldn't !

i'm going to see how it goes but if needed to narrow that and add a few extra coulters I think an extra beam added to the frame will be the way to go or i think trash flow will be too compromised for zero till

It was 12.5cm.

trash flow is only an issue in very heavy cover, natural regeneration for me, I have drilled through knee to waist high charlock this spring with no issues, chopped straw is no problem at all and I haven't had the best chopper that spread well, even very strawy FYM spread on chopped bean stubbles only gave problems where very big lumps got chucked out the spreader.

I have been amazed at what will go through this drill, even very poorly chopped and spread straw from a 12.5m axial flow went through on the whole, on ctf so following the straw lines, and they could have baled it , that's how thick it was. the wheat didn't make it through the mat but that's a different issue.

Clive, I'm interested that you've gone for a CO not a Sprinter. You happy that tine pressure will be ok? If drilling osr with a 12mm point, how deep do you think it will penetrate? Fully understand that CO is 1/4 the price of sprinter.

Reason = price 5k is a lot better than 20 ! Would I even get a 6m sprinter with liquid n and blockage monitors for 20 ?

I don't think penetration will be an issue in most conditions with a 12mm point. @dontknowanything CO seems fine on osr and cover crops in August, always have the option of adding weight as well I guess

However if I struggle in certain conditions I just send the 750a in ! This drill is a cheap extra option, not the default

Snap! This arrived last week, so very interested in what your going to do Clive, tried drill the yard, all seems to work so it's parked in the shed till spring. Looking to change the feet, not sure to what yet though.

From Oliver's in Luton ? I was looking at that drill. Very rare to find a uk one with fert

Let me know if you want some points when you see my prototype design !

Weight not needed for penetration, it comes from the angle of the tines. Be careful designing your own ones that you don't go too vertical otherwise it may cause problems. Trade off is disturbance vs penetration

After literally months of negotiations I have finally managed to do a deal on a 2003 Horsch CO6!!! Looking forward to getting stuck in to pimping it!!
