Nedap collar system

Had it here since November after a trial in October. Very impressed with it for heat detection which is what it was put in for. As a one man band it's like having another set of eyes watching the cows 24/7. The pd visits have been much improved and the vet has noticed i'm not showing him near as many empty cows. The last pd session was 21 out of 22. I will calve as many cows this September and October as Last September October and November. To soon to comment on reliability but no fails yet which is better than my first system. I didn't like the idea of collars round the cows necks and didn't think it would work with self feeding behind an electric wire but i soon got used to it and no issues with the feeding. I hear good things about the ear tags but though my cows would lose to many during the grazing season.

Had a pedometer system in 2014 which was also good at heat detection but terrible for reliability so was back to scratch cards by 2016 The peds were also more dangerous to fit and sandy slurry would build up on the strap and rub the legs. I thought i would never go for another system after my first experience but so far i'm pleased i did.

We've had Nedap tags on collars with a Boumatic system for 5/6 years. Does what it says on the tin and all original tags still going strong.

We are on sand with peds. Have a lot of build up as you say, but now we are losing a lot that the straps are breaking. Not convinced they are catching on anything, just rubbing on sand. Shame as they are really impressive for heat detection

I used to see cows rubbing the peds on the cubicle curb until they snapped would find one every week or ten days in the scrape passage.
