Means the electric "motor" does bugger all, from what I can gather from someone with a "mild hybrid"..... 🤷‍♂️
From what I can gather the “motor/generator” charges the battery when there’s energy going to waste, like idling and braking, and uses the stored leccy to assist when you put the foot down. Sounds sensible to me.

I spoke to someone who had driven a 3.0tdi Audi A4 ‘mild’ hybrid ad was blown away with its efficiency.

Possibly, or it's the bare minimum or least complicated system to add on to allow them to continue selling them here

From what I see these mild hybrids don`t seem to do much better on mpg than a highly efficient non-hybrid yet they use up resources supplying the customer with a battery, motor, etc, etc...... It`s just a bl**dy stupid box ticking exercise, and a con trick to make the consumer think they`re doing their bit to save the planet.... I`m certain they`d be better putting their R and D resources in to achieving more efficient I C engines.

Hi Moors Lad
Recently got my first Toyota Hybrid ..a Highlander SUV...It followed three previous Highlanders ..all 7 seaters..all 3.5 litre quad cam petrols that return 10.2 litres/100km petrol consumption... The new hybrid fitted with a 4 cylinder 2.5 litre, plus mild hybrid system(same as the RAV4 hybrid) has now done about 2000kms and averaged 6.8 litres/100km......still has plenty of go....doesn't have the soul or noise of the V6.. but a 33% saving on petrol is OK by me !!!!..dont knock it until you've tried it !

They know how to make more efficient IC engines already, but with all the emissions regs throttling them with dpfs etc. they can only get so far. If regulators had pushed efficiency over emission reduction I do wonder where we’d be now, twice the mpg?

Big difference! But you have gone from something that was only doing 23 mpg ( VERY greedy to my mind! ) to something that`s doing 30 mpg. Plenty diesels in the UK will be in that 30mpg area without the complexity of two technologies...
