Another watchdog will be introduced " The Office for Environmental Protection " by the end of 2020. As if we do not have enough government departments watching us already. From my understanding it will be responsible for water quality, pollution, land management ,noise etc etc.

Well, perhaps it will split the responsibility of protection away from DEFRA and allow it to concentrate on production and security of supply.
Dreaming , I know, but we can all have dreams.

Really? While it's possible this lot will police existing rules, I bet they won't be able to resist new, and expensive, ones. Then foist them on the easy targets.

The dept of getting tough on tippers would achieve nothing but bad press for persecuting a certain group. The dept of compelling nasty farmers to make less smell by limiting their inconveniencing village dwellers is a cheap, easy win.

If they confine their efforts to fly tippers, vehicle dismantlers, dodgy waste carriers and less scrupulous recyclers, I'd say hooray and crack on.
Most of us would but we know that involves them in actually doing some work and even possibly coming up against people who fight give them a slap, much much easier to go after a builder who hasn't signed the right form or put his plasterboard in the correct slip or a farmer who has a pile of old tyres or a couple of drums of old engine oil about the place

Of course all those "free" exemptions we have for using awful environmental practice of burning a few old bales of straw or spreading ditch cleanings will suddenly require a payment

We know nothing about this proposed new agency yet, and already some of us have decided it's main purpose is to persecute law abiding farmers.

I don't think it's far from what's going to happen. Farmers have money they don't have in the form of subs..... it's like taking money out of somebodies wages before you give them. It's a blank cheque to a self funding quango.

Frankly anyone who doesn‘t think environmental protection shouldn’t be an absolute priority needs a slap ........... and should certainly never be allowed to farm !

anyone noticed the weather recently?

lets just hope this isn’t yet another job filled by the usual list of current or ex NFU names though !

Lockdown has shown who is ultimately responsible for most co2, and who when they get the chance to visit the countryside then strew it with litter and their own excrement.

There's no need for senseless pollution for farmers, but "the general public" seem to shoulder very little blame.

Better off having a Quango to look into rain forest destruction, burning coal in Chinese power stations, and the millions of gallons of fuel burnt in needless air travel.
Do people not see the stupidity of raising the cost of beef production in this country due to petty rules, allowing it to become uncompetitive with beef reared on ex rain forest land ?

indeed it has, maybe this new commission might address that unfair distribute of blame

it‘s that PR thing again, agriculture gets the blame because we are an easy and defenceless target, its no coincide that industries with a lot to hide but PR use us to distract from the real blame
