Hi all,

What rates and type of fert are people using for a starter osr granular fert to go down the spout with the seed?
We will mainly broadcast fert on after drilling but looking to add a system to get the osr off straight away.

Thanks

50kg/ha of DAP down the spout does the trick . Can you spot the bit where I ran out !

DAP at 160 kg/ha gives 30 kg N, but placed near the seed rows you should get away with less than that. There are various snake oils that claim to be best but IMO readily soluble N and P are then best.

What type of drill are you using?

It's a homemade subsoiler with 10 legs then a crumble bar then Metcalf points with a techneat seeder.

Do you have any pictures of how and where the coulters are mounted please? I'm considering something similar for my Mzuri Rehab for better seed to soil contact rather than just blowing a band in front of the packer where so much seed goes very deep indeed.

Something like this

Or

We broadcast our DAP with the fertiliser spreader a day before drilling with the subsoiler. The fields had FYM too, so just enough DAP to bring the available N up to 30 kg/ha in total.

We also considered the sumo disc Coulter but due to he price (£800 each) we decided to go for Metcalf points. Who makes the disc coulter's in the second picture?

Before the Metcalf points we used old accord coulter's that we changed and haven't looked back. The Coulter spacing is 500mm same as each leg.

We use heva stealth legs and points for minimum disturbance. Crumble bar is 700mm.

If you need any more pictures I can take some over the next couple of days
