OSR Yields 2019

Elgar 3.8, Barbados 3.95, Dk imperial 2.96. Overall that’s 3.6t/ha over the weigh bridge. Not exciting but with a low input spend and prices going the right way it will probably still be the best payer.

Indeed, combination of csfb, black grass, pigeons, Roundup (sprayed a third off in May as it was obviously a disaster)

Might have a break from it next year.....

Done various blocks on 3 farms:

1 - 26 ha avge 4.01 t/ha (down circa 0.7 on 10 year average)
2 - 28 ha avge 3.75 t/ha (clearfield and direct drilled)
3 - 22 ha avge 3.91 t/ha (around 0.2 t below average yields)

All of above not really affected by CSFB so must just be a poor rape year!

Most disappointing is block 1 as this is a long way off where is should be, in terms of soil type.....block 1 = nice sandy clay loam, block 2 = heavy marsh clay, block 3 = top notch wold soil

Back on Wolds today for another 20 ha block so will see what it does

3.7t (weigh-bridge) - light land was better than heavy, it was running higher until the last few fields

Given it was a tricky season and we have spent very little (notill, FSS, Herbicide and N/S fert only) the margin will be decent

Glad to have it in the barn, averaged sub 9% - oils looking circa 45% on the Grainsense tester we have on loan

DK Sequel (semi dwarf) 1.2 t/acre or 3 t/ha. Lowest yield we have had for years.

Plenty of losses to CSFB in the autumn and I'd say 50% had larvae in the stems in the spring. Considering all that it looked respectable before combining but disappointed. Small seed, and not enough.

My neighbour's conventional crop has looked very good since it was drilled in comparison to mine. He drilled a week earlier behind a subsoiler and it romped way whereas mine got chomped to bits by CSFB.

It appears to me that a flying start and autumn vigour is half the battle and is something we can actually control up to a point. After that it's a lottery.

Palmedor HEAR 2 t/ha. Campus farm saved seed 2.5 t/ha. I’ll update these when they have gone over a weighbridge in the next couple of weeks.

I don’t blame the Palmedor for the yield- that was down to the soil moisture at the time of drilling that slowed the crop down enough for the flea beetle to get ahead of it.
