Overwinter sheep on old horse paddock

Hi

ive got 3 acres of old horse paddock that I’ve not cut this year -harldy worth it. It’s not had any livestock on it… But I’m thinking of over wintering some sheep on it to start eating off the grass and sh1t on it…What would be best - stores or wait till something that’s tup’d or some old empty ewes? when next spring comes round plan is to improve condition of soil and grass so will roll and spread on it and then either bail it or again put some livestock on it all year. But to start with want something on it that’s going to get through winter easiest. cheers

It’s 3 acres … be lucky too over winter 3 f**king sheep on it don’t over think it

You wont keep much on 3ac over winter , best get a mob on it now flatten down cover and allow a regrowth , will feed much better than old dead carp . old ewes with a crystalix (urea) high energy hard block or similar

Can’t you ask a neighbour to put a big mob on there for a day? I think that would be the best job.

At least they will spread the dock seed uniformly.

We graze sheep on horse paddocks. Educating our landowners takes time. You'll be best talking to local hobbyists to you.
