Peacocks - are they worth having around the farm yard!?

Ever since I saw a pair on holiday in Dorset I quite liked the idea of them. I’ve the opportunity of a couple (brace??) but not sure how damaking the can be.

rumours are they are noisy, can be quite bolshy and attack shiny things. The Mrs is far from convinced, I’m on the fence...

we are a fair distance from any other property so I doubt the will wonder too far.

any advice welcome?
We had one - years ago, as someone pointed out, they are NOISY, plus big bird= bigger turds, and, being male they get territorial and
stroppy with it - well ours did. Glad the fox got him in the end.

Their turds are very acidic, lifting paint on vehicles
Our old tractorman detested them

Any ex Bicton College students will tell you how noisy they are.
I’ve always quite liked this picture though:

One of my landlords has one and friends must have 50 knocking about their place

I'd love one but I think my neighbours would hate me ! View attachment 884378
Is the first part of that sign written in some long lost Suffolk dialect??

The only word I can make out is the last one......"GIT"........don't know whether that's the peacock or abuse, aimed at the reader :scratchhead:

Never forget our first holiday together in Crete, it was a lively little town and none of us got to bed before midnight and the revelries were still going on. finally got to sleep only to be wakened at 4, by a terrible screaming outside. We were not sure if she was being raped or murdered. The hotel was quiet and no phones in those days, being thew chivalrous sort I thought best to pull up the covers and protect my wife rather than go outside and meet the local Jannis the ripper.
It was the most awful blood curdling screams lasting at least half an hour.
Turned out the peacocks liked roosting on our balcony :):):)

As said, they are very noisy!! Noisier than guinea fowl. But it's not an unpleasant noise. The biggest problem I think is the damage to cars and shiny things. Maybe not yours, but at some point they will do £1000 of damage to a visitor's.

We've chosen to have plenty of guinea fowl around, as they won't damage cars. Great little birds, and their favourite food is ticks. So that keeps the local tick population down too.

As had to go after crapping on the door step. We enjoyed them. At the time the jack russell was a bit lively and she used the chase them and once had the pea hen in the mouth. We also had chicks but she lost them. Nice to have around if not crapping all over the place

I'm contemplating allow the wife to have quail. Guinea fowl are an outright no.

for some reason I am going off Peacocks but warming to Guinea Fowl....

A friend of mine has recently had to have the whole side of his Range rover resprayed due to Peacock damage. It was dispatched of immediately....

Ok I think the plan is about to change, not having that going on!

My brother has some guinea fowl. They are smart birds and they dont sh!t on your car

Ok - lets hear more about Guinea fowl please... are they better behaved?!
