Surely a massive oversight for one so experienced ?

On our land you can brighten a plough up in less than an hours work, even with the worst of rust on them, its just got that abrasiveness to it

sadly we was all ploughed up before i bought this one, else none of these problems would have happened

What's the reason your work is coming off the boards like this John when Mr Framingham is turning furrows that look so different to yours? Discs? Can't be the ground cos' you were both in the same field.
Golf still looking like a good option?
Well done though for all the money you all raised.

First time out on rusty boards, thats all there is to it

what hasnt been mentioned, unsuprisingly, is how all the good work was done on the undisturbed stubble on the 3rd row of plots

the second row of plots were on stubble that had been chopped up with a pasture topper that was being used to locate a pto fault on a tractor

Stubble is easily dealt with, providing it is rooted to the soil. When its 6" of chopped wet straw not attached to anything, its going to stick to anything

Golf is not an option, as i wish to have a hobby that makes use of my abilty to drive in a straight line, which many of saturdays men seemed to lack...

Believe me, it's easy done!!!!!!!!!

Not sure how, short of completely losing concerntration, and focus on the end marker, or getting off, altering the plough and not sitting back in the exact same position

When im drawing through, my eyes are constantly moving, alternating between the marker at the end of the plot, the tip of the bonnet, and an object ive fixed on in the distance, drawing an imaginary line right through all of them

on saturday it was a dead tree in the ditch at the far end of the field

No need for a sighting pole halfway through the plot either

Heard it all before John. Once saw one just like this and when the guy got to the other end the post in the hedge he lined up with was the exhaust on a barge going past on the canal at the back of the hedge. :D

It may be camera angle, but the boards look all over the place, 2 looks high and 3 low.

I can also see that Harry, at last we have some common ground, !
Did you measure from the point up the board, and mark each board, and then put the straight edge on the marks? A second straight edge parallel to the first will show up any height problems when sighted in with the first
I have already asked him that but I don't think he understood ?

If they were that far out it would be obvious surely?

Your stick shows what it's like in the yard, as I've already pointed out YL's are a bugger for moving.

Also, whatever land you have there is no way those were going to clean, I would have polished them before bolting them back on, to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail

Points for straightness?

How the hell you can get such a bend in a plot that short is beyond me!!!

Many competitors attending matches have little experience of driving a tractor and no land on which to practice driving straight, many do not work in agriculture and are just happy to have somewhere to use their kit,
For the ultimate accuracy at least 3 poles are desirable as sooner or later you will be in the middle bank of 3 rows of plots then looking through all the obstacles to find your point in the hedge will be of no use, there is good reason for everything we proper ploughmen do and you are on the first bend in the learning curve which is great, I love learning and hope to learn something new every day !

When the boards are all lined up check the pitch is the same on all furrows.
On my plough which is only 2 furrow you could set the boards aligned or set the pitch (I had put a pitch adjuster on the rear furrow) but not get both right at the same time. It was was the result of a bent frog.
It should be much easier to spot on a 4 furrow as if the boards line up so should the points.

Roy .next year want to make it a 2 day event. 1st day a training day / practice day for the novices and a number of youngsters have asked Emma if possible ..the likes of yourself and any other ploughmen who would be happy to help the youngsters and then have a match then discuss the scores to help them get better . Because when you look at it there is a lot of oldies

I would love to help out Brian, I had planned to come over for a look this year but I had a customer for my ploughing school that I had cancelled twice due to the weather so I couldn't cancel again, with a bit of forward planning on my calender it won't be a problem

A lot of very vauge assimptions being made based on a single photo of a plough with an incorect cross setting trying to plough in 2 furrows of disturbed soil and 2 of solid ground. I know for a fact it layed it level and matched up once i got out of the opening. Anything else besides that is irrellevant.
