Ffs some people need to get a grip
Try telling a NHS nurse you are hard done by having to work weekends, while he/she is in the middle of a 12hr shift at 11pm on a Saturday night
Why are people so obsessed with weekends. Shops, bars, entertainment venues etc are open 7 days a week, and guess what, while you are on your weekend off, the waiter is working, the shop assistant is working, the amusement park staff are working
You get my drift
For some, it's because the kids aren't at school, and they like spending time with their kids. Mostly they lounge around watching the telly though, so not entirely sure of the value.

The NHS is a poor example.

Hospitals practically shut down over weekends.

I was put in hospital a few weeks ago and standard of care on Monday compared to Saturday and Sunday was night and day.

Agree with rest.

NHS is one of the few things that needs to be 24/7 but your statistically more likely to die if you are admitted on a weekend. They all work very hard on a weekend but it is skeleton staff and very few specialists

I'm lucky i enjoy what i do.

Wouldn't grudge a nurse cleaning shitty arses a weekend off. Poor guy opposite me sh!t himself twice in a couple of hours. Second time it was because the nurse had given him a laxative after the first time because she could hardly speak any English and had arrived from Africa a week before.

She was delighted with my farmers guardian her cousin at home was a farmer and loved growing things.

You'd think someone could organise a rota so some decent staff on at weekends. Some wards just get emptied on a Friday for weekend.

We employ people now and try to give as much time off as possible. Most weekends when not on seasonal work. Iv worked for other people and dreading asking for enough time off for a haircut is no fun and there was a pile of us working there and trust me the day the boss was an arse, as soon as he left the boys had a tea break. When they were out contracting for another farmer and the farmer brought out chips and said thanks they would work all night without a word said. Working people 7 days a week all the time doesn't always get more work done

If you had every second weekend off for 3 years, would you go about telling people you hadn't had a day off for 3 years?

Its no wonder farmers are replacing people with machines/technology.

No I'd be telling them I hadn't had a holiday in 3 years.

So would you be happy to leave a quarter of a million pounds worth of stock, equipment etc to be looked after by a chap who hasn't had a proper break since Cameron was PM?

You are joking right? Think it's fine for a stockman to work 5 out of 7 for years, but you've slating the NHS for being poorly organised?

Perhaps the Chief Executive of the Regional Health Authority keeps telling everyone "When I was your age I was lucky to get a couple of hours off to sleep-you need to man up!

Or more likely farms are struggling to find skilled staff prepared to work long hours with little to no time off. There is a labor crisis in the industry at the moment. Flick through FB for more than 5mins and you will see countless job adverts and a list of drongos tagging each other, none of whom I would want to employ.
Its telling on here that there are some employers who understand to keep good staff they need to look after them and then there are those who don't have a clue!

Seems the hours for dairy farm workers are getting longer,
If they couldn't have a cellphone at their workplace it might get shorter again - often there's quite a difference between being 'at work' and 'doing work' from what I've seen.
Some folks can turn a 5 minute task into 35 minutes, so will always have long days
Others have managers who expect 23 things done between milkings, also....

You get used to it. I changed our kids and still do for one of them, just a procedure to do now.
