Post lambing dosing.

Up until now it's been a single dose of Ivomec, but apparently research shows that the residuals of using it can persist in the dung for a considerable period of time after use and still have considerable detrimental effect on soil health after spreading.

Sheep are typically housed about four weeks before lambing starts and although we have no significant problems with fluke ourselves, they are away on winter grazing for two to three months although that would be on ground which is either cut or grazed with cattle only. Therefore the dose with Ivomec was very much as an insurance policy so to speak.

But I'd really like to get away from it completely, so are there any other options for the same job?

Thanks.

If they are in good nick then don't bother. There is another thread on this.
Fluke may be a risk, worms less so. Do a FEC before wasting dosing them.
Done a search but nothing came up, mustn't have got the wording right.

Fluke would be the main concern and maybe lice or such like from the straw.

Condition is good, maybe some fatter than ideal at lambing but we're getting away fine so far.

Seems a bit odd doing an FEC on mature housed sheep but I guess it's the only way to answer the fluke question. The Ivomec was very much a "just in case" type thing and I thought that given that it's at least a year before their bedding goes on to the land, the residual effect of it would be at least considerably mitigated, but it seems that may not be the case.
