O well that’s me done for another season. Very happy with yield and the price(270) is not bad after last year (400). How is everyone else getting on?
Maris Bard like hens teeth this season, couple of big hits taken by growers in Scotland with Powdery Scab. Depends then on whether you are looking to chip earlies or just new...........might have a couple of options for you if you wanted to PM me.......Anybody had any luck with earlies seed. I only set a couple of headlands but there's nothing available im told
Think it was a case of salvaging what they could, but Powdery came in at it's worst after burn off. It sometimes does not show up fully initially, can be 8-10 wks later - so can get worse in store when you think you've got a clean crop................Chipping yes. What did they do with the bard, grow them on for ware? Won't this have a knock on affect for years for the variety? Will pm
I understand there is a lot of rots in some areas, also fresh harvested crop coming to market pressuring prices.Seeing that the Uk has the third lowest annual crop on record, aren’t prices a bit low atm?
we’re £200-£240 free buy chipping.
I hear that there is harvesting going on again here, 30% losses?
What is the cause of such high losses, actual water logging.
We are just finishing and max 20% losses, more greens than normal due to ridge erosion, which have got frosted this is the main loss, but a few to slugs & some cutting due to struggling to work as deep as I would like.
Still a high yeild & nice sample when graded, eat well too & chip but we are fresh market not chip shop trade.
What varieties do you run with. And which ones are you lifting now? Am nosy. Sorry.
