mine used to be more acidic, last test was 6.8 so it improved? just left it at that but did consider lime to improve it.
I reckon the test will Vairy with the weather to an extent .mine used to be more acidic, last test was 6.8 so it improved? just left it at that but did consider lime to improve it.
My well is hideous at about 6.2.
Runs through a neutralising medium of calcium carbonate (juraperle) takes it up to 7.8.
Tastes much nicer and I can’t help get the feeling cows prefer it, but then when we always have acidosis in the back of our mind 100l of acidic water wouldn’t help matters!
it could do, ive improved drainage around the spring just dug a decent sized ditch(sometimes im sure surface water was getting in im small amounts under storm conditions)and sorted the lid for a proper job,I reckon the test will Vairy with the weather to an extent .
Aye I just want to do the best I can , ain’t spent much on it in thirty years so if I can improve things all is good , clean water is essential at the end of the day , it has capacity to ruin health water and without that ain’t got nowt .it could do, ive improved drainage around the spring just dug a decent sized ditch(sometimes im sure surface water was getting in im small amounts under storm conditions)and sorted the lid for a proper job,
seems to have improved loads since maintaining these improvements.

My well is full of stones to raise water level to pipe that goes to storage tank, I think if I got some lime stone stones and swapped them it might do the trick !!ha ha,
agreed, i improved mine loads about 7/8 years ago luckily i got an old Yorkshire water clan water reservoir lid cheap!
i asked some there about the ph job amusingly they said you could theoretically put limestone in the spring and as it degraded it would improve the ph !
i was not aware there were media systems to improve it at the time.
Will drinking acid water do us any harm
what do you put this media in?
I think the main benefit of alkaline water, is when your plumbing is lead, which is extremely rare today. Otherwise there is virtually no evidence of health benefit. There’s quite a lot of evidence that drinking alkaline water can improve your health.

my spring water came through peat, so the acidity regulator as well as having the limestone dissolved, used to fill up with peat "mud" and had to be flushed out before refilling with the stone granules. There’s quite a lot of evidence that drinking alkaline water can improve your health.

Water with a pH lower than 7 is considered as acidic. A pH of 6 is ten times more acidic than that, and a pH of 5 is one hundred times that of 7, so there is a considerable increase in acidity with every point below neutral on the scale.

The people in the know think different.Don't think anyone needs to worry too much about drinking water that's pH5 or above as the natural content of the human stomach is pH1 -2 due to the hydrochloric acid we produce to digest our food?
If it is dissolving a whole lot of nasties before it gets near your pump, then it is a lot to late to be adding a bit of lime. The water will atill be carrying this and can only be cured by some very expensive filtration. Can be quite a few acid-soluble nasties in the rocks underground, before it gets anywhere near pipework. That would be my concern from anything too low pH.
