@Dave W are machinery dealers allowed to supply second hand machines with damaged PTO guards?

I know some dealers you'd be lucky to get a pto shaft from. Let alone it be the correct one with a guard

And attach the bloody chains to something!!!!
The number of machines I see ruined where the chain has been spinning round whipping the frame is scary.
End up with a tidy machine with a square of paint missing.

I find a on some implements attaching the pto guard chain to the tractor pto cover to be unsuitable and on several machines I now put 2 large heavy duty cable ties on the drawbar to attach the chain to. I had a Claas round baler that destroyed the cone of its pto guard because the chain would wrap one whole turn round it and cut through the plastic.

Chain is too long then. Sound be adjusted alert as possible so it doesn't wrap

Think you will find other industries doput up with it, and not only that but a complete new guard would be fitted, not repaired at all,

Why repair something when you can send it to landfill, replace it with a new one and pass the cost on to the customer?

I’m sure pto guard chain is made with one weak link designed to easily break, the rest especially hardened to bash everything it comes into contact with without breaking

Dairy farmers must find this thread hugely confusing. What with the doubly confusing PTO-'guard' [whatever the fudge that is they ask] and 'maintenance' all happening in the same sentence.

What really pees me off is when you get a new bit of kit and there`s a nice thick booklet with the PTO shaft that is totally bl**dy useless - why can`t the HSE get their finger out and ensure we get a proper booklet in ENGLISH with proper instructions on safety and maintenance, etc, etc .... Surely an item with so much potential for causing SERIOUS injury or worse should arrive on farm with proper instructions!!

You can shorten the chain,just move the clip back a few links

I have two of the bareco ones with the yellow ends, and the guards have been faultless except that the ends have gone brittle and cracked then started disintegrating, they do sit outside all year though. Anyone else had this?

Complain to the manufacturer in writing and state that you think their documentation and user manual are not good enough for what is a safety critical item?
