For an HND Agric like me what use was Newcastle (or Reading)?Do students at Harper Adams and other Farm Institutes ever get over the trauma of failing to get into Newcastle?
Just wondering.

I never even looked at Newcastle as an option before I went to Harper
Newcastle University in general is quite tough to get into,and is up there with some of the best in the Country.Its not a bad city really,and as a young student,i could think of plenty cities no where near as good to spend your university years in.Just ask Charlie Flindt.Its compact as well,you can easily walk from the north university end to the south/quayside/railway station in just a few minutes.And theres always the footy.Great atmosphere on match days,almost right in the City centre.No we just feel sorry for you
Remind me where Newcastle comes in the Sunday Times list of esteemed educational establishments in comparison to Harper?
You're out in the fabulous sticks in no time, the locals are amazing, although in my time there you could still get a good thumping in for sounding like a Hampshire public schoolboy. Yah rarely. My boy's up there now, and doing part-time work in the hipster cafe near the quayside. Never had any of that barista nonsense in 81-84.Newcastle University in general is quite tough to get into,and is up there with some of the best in the Country.Its not a bad city really,and as a young student,i could think of plenty cities no where near as good to spend your university years in.Just ask Charlie Flindt.Its compact as well,you can easily walk from the north university end to the south/quayside/railway station in just a few minutes.And theres always the footy.Great atmosphere on match days,almost right in the City centre.
@JugglerMust have been there same time as you, I was 90-93 Ag Eng, I remember that review!
The Summer Ball was always a cracking night, in my final year we built a pneumatic dinosaur that rose out of the swimming pool. Cant remember which band was on that year but Bad Manners played while I was there.
Anyone remember the late Geoff Wakeham? He used to tell us we were 'Waiting for the real world', and 'Living is a fools paradise', which a few of us had on our jumpers if I remember correctly.
Happy days.
@Juggler
