Recommend me a cheap basic wrapper

Hi, As the title suggests we could do with a cheap basic wrapper for round bales, we've all the other gear and would just like the flexibility to bale when we want rather than trying to fit in with the contractor. It would only be doing a couple of hundred bales a year.
Lawrence Edwards wrappers seem to pop up regularly on the second hand market.
What do you recommend? Thank you

Avoid Lawrence Edwards. The pre stretch units are plastic drive and wear out. They are obsolete and new unit will be more than wrapper worth.
in fact avoid any of the old wrappers with plastic pre units.
Kverneland would be the best of the really old machines. £5/6/700 will get a tidy reliable one.

I do wonder if it would be possible to make new gears with a 3d printer.

It’s not worth the bother, those plastic units were utter rubbish.Im sure you can buy a metal replacement set, probably cost near a grand now tho.
More than the wrapper is worth and that’s the problem.

Wasn't that hard to replace with steel:

Gears from bearing boys hiding in ally box. Pretensioner assembly available, with attached wrapper, for £250.

There’s a mchale in York sales looks like it would fit the bill. But doesn’t have cut and hold mechanism fitted.
was that normal for the early ones?
Dunno to be fair as ours is a bit more modern as it’s a 2009 build machine

The cut and hold would only be necessary if it has electro hydraulics and remote control. What the op needs to tell us is if he has the help to stand next to a static machine and operate it, doesn't have help but wants to wrap at the stack or wants to get on and wrap in the field.
I do about 300 bales, but cut here, there and everywhere. Having had a very basic and cheap static wrapper, Mrs G was rightly fed up of wrapping bales at 10 pm and later. It's now gone and I have bought a trailed on so I can get them wrapped in the evening on my own after baling that day and then cart back at my leisure.

What trailed did you buy? Happy with it?

It would probably be me wrapping back at the stack, we've not far to cart. How many bales roughly an hour could you do with a manual cut and hold?

An Astwell 865 from @tr250. Yet to use it in anger, hopefully will in the next few days.

Not many if you're on your own, jumping on and off the tractor soon wears thin. If you've a good helper they would keep up with the loader. 500mm wrappers would be slower than a 750mm as they have to do more turns.

Spent many a night with my grandad as a kid stood on the drawbar of the old kv wrapper jumping on and off to cut and tie counting how many times it went round once the bale was fully covered and working the 3 control levers
