UJ on our straw chopper went, fair enough, so took it to a ag engineers locally, for repair. Took yesterday, phone call to say needed 1 new yoke as well, fine.
went to pick up, as had phone call to say ready

got there, they went to get it, 'oh, not happy with it, going to get it re-done', from workshop manager.

40 mins later, new yoke, and new clutch end, niggled because had to wait, but then they wanted to charge me, for the time it took to 're-do'.

a few words were exchanged, point blank refused to pay double labour, and pointed out, 1 yoke, not 2, was said to be needed. Fine if it was needed, but they had already said only 1.

service in the shop was bloody awful, wanted a few other bits, chap serving, went off, and sat down halfway through sorting the bits out, and l was polite, until they wanted to charge double labour.

Just the job, greases parts and useful for disputes! :p
Yes, it’s actually a grease gun.

The Aussies will be along shortly to tell you you should have fully kitted out service and parts depts of your own and the uj in question should’ve been changed before it failed.🙄
Tbf I would never dream of sending a UJ away for repair, I can do them 15 mins max usually. It would take longer to go fetch it back once finished at the ag repair.

The time has to be charged somewhere. So do the parts. Why should the business wear these costs to fix your driveshaft? Or do you think you're special and deserve special treatment, free parts and free labour?

If they had given you the driveshaft the first time, you'd be on here posting about how much of a half-assed job they did.

If the gave you a discount, you'd be here in 2 months posting about how the local ag engineers have gone out of business and closed down.

Look on the bright side - the job eventually got done (properly......the second time around) and you're back up and running.

Curious to know how much labour got charged in the end.

Sadly it's a sign of the times...
Parts are getting expensive and trying to get and keep staff sounds impossible.
Imagine the conversation when the fitter was told to rebuild it again and this time do it properly 😱
young apprentice/fitter, charged out at £60 hr

it was the 'couldn't care less' attitude, that niggled me.

no objection if it needed another yoke, if it needs it, it needs it, but was told it only needed 1.

but the 'shop' storemen, were just something else, just not interested. We have always found them very helpful, quoted for machinery etc. Something appears to have gone very wrong somewhere.

Agree the time has to be charged somewhere, but they didn't repair it properly the first time, and the manager told them to do it again, they should stand the cost of one of the repairs not the OP. I'll pay for the time for something to be fixed once, if before I get it back they decide its not been done right and needs doing again thats their cost to stand for their shoddy workmanship in the first place

they rung me, and said it was ready, simple

got there, workshop foreman said, 'not happy with this, i'll get him to do it again'.

why do you think l should pay x2 labour, when the job had to be re-done, as not properly done the first time ? Would you ?

but the whole general attitude is what really annoyed me, shame, they have always been most helpful. They are more expensive than others, but they carry a huge stock of fittings etc, which no-one else locally does.

labour was £60, for 30 mins one day, and same again, to do it properly. Having been told ready to pick up, waiting 45 mins, what's my time worth ?

the only good thing, it was me that had to wait, not the OH. Which was the original plan, as she had to drive past the next day, that changed.

dairy farmers, and grease nipples, don't work together sometimes.

will add another fuuck up. Our p/t worker, managed to hit a car, on a straight road, 'didn't see it coming', it was stopped, our tractor left black tread on the road.

the driver of the car, recorded the conversation on his phone.

' really sorry, all my fault' etc etc.

means we have to claim £11,500 on our insurance, as admitted liability, l reckon he was playing with his mobile, but he said he wasn't. Comment when told, 'oh'.

what the fuuck do you do ?

They absolutely should not have charged for re-doing it.

It can happen sometimes that when I put something back together I might not be entirely content with it, but if I decide to go back over it, then that's on my own time.

You can't charge people for your "expertise" in doing something and also charge them again when you don't get it quite right.

Admittedly I only work on my own so there can't be a breakdown in communication because there's no one else involved, but if that was a factor then that's also on them. I never tell somebody to come and lift something until it's finished, checked, and I'm happy for it to go back over the counter.

If they had done the same there'd have been no bother.

So you think you shouldn't have to claim because someone you employ and I assume consider competent managed to hit a stationary vehicle? That he should then have lied and said it was the car drivers fault?
Incidentally I think you were correct to be annoyed at the machinery dealer, I would not be paying for their staffs incompetence.
